I have just ordered a new Curare:D
My hangar is getting full of old pattern planes.
When I move to my new house I will show you some pics, with all my stuff and my fathers stuff I got after him passing away I can start a hobbyshop.
Tomorrow is funaral and I finaly can put my dad to rest.
I have restored his old Crusader and we will have that on his coffin.

P.S is it dangerous to fly a plane where the wing sheeting is getting unglued(it is not much but you can see the area), I really want to fly his old Crusader.

Get a syringe, fill it with polyurethane glue, and inject it into the voids. The glue will foam up and fill the voids. . . You can warm up the glue when its in the syringe to make it more liquidy. . .

well guys, it looks like St. Peter has another flying buddy. one would assume there are no crashes there and that's not a bad thing. besides a crusader is an appropriately named plane. my condolences on the passing of your dad Martenson.

And please show us photos of the new kit when it comes in.

YES, fix the sheeting issue! Often sheeting coming off in one little spot is simply a symptom of a more systemic and widespread problem. I would carefully go over the entire wing to make sure this isn't happening anywhere else.

Sorry about your Father...

A fellow here just lost his Aurora from a failed wing...Apparently the sheeting came loose and it broke just beyond the fiberglass center section...Here is a link to the thread if yoiu want to take a look:

I'm going to do a new set of wings for my Atlanta...Some of my others I'm going to keep a close eye on...

Maybe you could get some cores and do another set of wings only??

If this was built from the original plan it should have a built-up egg crate wing rib design that Ralph liked to use.

My dad got the fuse from Ralph when he was in Sweden 1965 or something like that.
And my dad made his own wing from foam and sheeted with balsa.

I have the original plan and there you can choose built up wing or templets for cutting a foam wing.

I just got my brand new Curare kit.
It has fibre glass fuse and foam wings.
Problem is the instruction is in German[:o]

One question, did the Old Curare that Hano flew have retracs or solid undercarriage??

Hanno flew the Curare in the FAI competitions. He had retracts on his model.

Please accept my condolences for you and your family. Losing a parent is not a pleasant experience, as you know.

I was going to suggest injecting epoxy into the known voids via syringe and then clamping the balsa skin to the foam wing for a day or two. I''ve seen friends use this method successfully after the original binder (spray contact cement) lost its grip.

Thanks Ed, yes it''s a bit heavy now, but he had a real good funaral, his favorite pattern plane on the coffin and his favorite motorcycle beside.
And a church full of friends and familly.
When I was flying my Flip 3D yesterday I felt his present at the field

We have some tough months, my mother has bought a new house and I have bought my parents, so we are moving stuff like crazy.
I don''t know the messurments in feet but my old house hade 82 squere meters with a basement with 82 squere meters, my new has 300 squere meters with a 150 squere meters basement or hangar.
So when my new hangar is ready I will take pictures of all the planes and post it.

I was out and flying my Dad's old Aggrovator to day, first flight since 1978 for this plane, and it did remeber what to do:D
It was easy flying nice and straight knifedge.

I have to say I'm sorry, I did not want to make this topic to a sad topic about death[:o]

Many of us are of the age that death is nearly a weekly occurence for our friends and family. Sometimes it is good to express grief amongst friends, as you have done. We are a global family of modelers, you were perfectly in line to share your grief with us.

I don't think I remember the Aggrovator. Was it very popular in its day?

This seems top be the year to loose fathers. I lost mine in June, Mark-O lost his recently, too. And my college roomate lost his 2 months ago.

The Aggrovator was kitted by a British company called Truline, I don't know how popular it was, I can only remember my dad's plane.
I had a Truline trainer and my dad was sponsored by a local hobbie shop that carried Truline, HP engines and Proline radios.

Next plane to "hit" the air is this unknow patternbird, it might be a british plane to.

Hello Martenson:

You should be very concerned about flying your father's Crusader if the sheeting has loosened. It would be a great shame to loose a sentimental aircraft such as this one. Perhaps you should build another and then you can wring it out good. My father passed away last December and he was never into R/C flying but was a golfer (way better than me). I still have his first trophy from 1967. Save that plane for a rememberence. No matter what you fly he will be out at the field with you looking down every flight.

Please accept my condolences and have a peaceful and fun filled flying season.

Mark, I have changed my mind regarding flying the Crusader.
I have plans for it and will build at least a new wings before i'll fly it.
Might even build a totaly new bird.
