Phoenix 7 40
 

You know- we all have a soft spot filled by a particular airplane and for me it was my old Dirty Birty .40 from 1982. Been looking some time for a replacement- even plans/templates are tough to find. So when 70's Flyer made this kit available for bid on "the site's name we cannot mention," it was like "hmmm- maybe I can get lucky!" :D Sure enough it arrived yesterday in fine shape thanks to Rich.

Opening it up even felt like a Bridi Kit- the way the machine cut parts were packed, the simple typed/stapled instructions, and the fiberglass cowl that you glue on the nose looks just like what the DB .40 had. 58" wingspan, 565 sq in, man that sounds like a DB .40. It was like daja vu 'til it came clear- Don Lowe's Phoenix Seven40 was designed by Joe Bridi! Unfortunately, I remember little about Airborne RC and had no idea they sold this kit. But it looks to me that Bridi Industries may have been supplying these for Airborne to market. Anybody know more? What else did they sell?

Anyway, I'll scan these plans and photocopy the cut parts so it can be scratchbuilt if desired. Just not quite sure how, or where is best place to offer the downloads.

Hi Jeff,
I had one many years ago (late '70s) with an OS 45FSR and tuned pipe. Great flying airplne for a 40 sized pattern ship. I still have the plans (somewhere???) and might build a 60 sized version - with a few modifications from the original plans.

PS Airborne produced a number of kits including the Nutcracker and others which I will need to research as my memory is failing me at the moment:eek:

Very cool Jeff! I will probably want a copy of the plans if you get them scanned. I have an SF .40-P w/pipe that needs to be in a forty-size ship.

I had a f/g and foam 40 size Phoenix V back in the '70s. Really liked that plane. IIRC it had an FSR 40 and was a fixed gear...taildragger.
