ORIGINAL: stuntflyr I started flying R/C last summer and love the older ships. They are a bit small, but I'm just going to have to try them for a year or two. I have an Antique Pattern ship (Hester King Cobra), a SPA Pattern ship (ARF Kaos) and a BPA Pattern ship (Tiporare). Each is still on the bench, but I'm sure ready to fly them and wish and hope that more guys in my neck of the woods would/are going to fly them this season. My 12 year old likes my Kaos, and if he and RCPilot can get turned on by the oldies, Ed, we should have continued participation. Chris... The Taurus, Kwik Fly, and larger King Altair, (see attached) are all offered as laser-cut kits by Jeff at www.Homeandhobbysolutions.net . The Dirty Birdy is from Blue Jay, there is a Compensator kit etc etc. and there are many other kits coming out now, if you ask a few questions. As I said in my "Vintage Aerobatics" article for Model Aviation, younger pilots don't view these planes as pieces of nostalgia; they look at them as neat good flying planes, built for areobatics, that you can compete with if desired in the lower levels of AMA pattern, and certainly SPA contests. They are challenging, and a "blast" to fly. All these so-called "OLD" plane designs are NEW to them...it's the fun of flying them, along with the competition that counts, so I believe organizations like SPA have the potential for a bright future. SPA membership continues to grow quickly and branch out across the country. New chapters are being formed and competitions staged. We just held TWO REGIONAL judges clinics last weekend in different states...a first for SPA, and already have as many active members in April of this year as we had at the peak of last year's flying season. We're getting new members every week as word is spreading:) The larger it gets, the faster membership grows. In Florida, they are now becoming experienced at flying combined SPA/BPA contests, with some big names in pattern competing. Yes I think SPA/BPA has a bright future ahead. Duane |
RE: Classic Pattern Kits.
Over on the Eastern Cay, you can plug in what you are looking for, every time something like it shows up, you will get an e-mail. Make sure you put the name: "Sig Whatever", then you can have good opportunity. I have seen two of those in the last year come up. Put a request in on RCU or that other place, someone will answer. RE: Classic Pattern Kits.
Thanks for the response. I have sent Dan some template info on a EU-1A kit a while back and I had'nt thought he might produce one.

RE: Classic Pattern Kits.
lectric,
Your EU1 templates were really helpful in making the new templates for the foam wing. We are moving right along with that and as it always seems there is never enough time it is a slow but steady effort. No way have I given up on Chuck... we'll get that new Atlanta kit out...again.. just a matter of time. Too many airplanes and now enough time.... now if I could just quit the college teaching thing I might get more done.... something about retirement/health care//etc...LOL Dan Carolina Custom Aircraft |
RE: Classic Pattern Kits.
Hi thanks:
I haven't given up on building my EU but I keep being drawn to an Atlanta. I have several of the newer 2M stuff YS140 power but I still like the old trike 60's. I realize you have a lot going on but if you get a chance let me know when the EU and Atlanta kits are avail. No rush have enough to fly this year but next winter will be here before we know it and thats when I build. |

RE: Classic Pattern Kits.
Yes it would, I also have Hanno with red tuned pipe and header, ran once, LNIB
Having done a little research I have seen this kit go for $400. I think that is out of the question and a little unrealistic, but would like to get a reasonable price for these |

RE: Classic Pattern Kits.
ORIGINAL: alfiebaby I have a NIB box Rossi 61RE, bought at a swap meet in 1985, which I would never dream of selling, & am going to build a Wolfgang Matt Arrow to put it in, ( from a plan, as I can't justify the $400 or more the MK kit currently up for grabs will surely fetch ). Plans are available and the ones that are not can be obtained from fellow builders, but I would rather build than cut parts. Other people prefer scratching a kit and are very good at it. Unfortunately I'm not...[&o] Not enough patients. Check out 8178 build (Blue Angel) and Rainedave builds. You'll be inspired and you'll get that Rossi out of the box and in a plane!:D DM |
