RE: OS Pattern engine question

Sound barrier. The crock pot methode works great for removing baked on residue. I found a mini crockpot with lid, that's just big enough to fit a completely disassembled 61 FSR or 61 RF

A few warnings before you try it.
1. Completely disassemble the engine and only place metal parts in the antifreeze. NO Plastic or rubber or silicone parts or orings.
2. Absolutely do not use the hot antifreeze to free up a stuck motor. Tried this and believe it or not I ruined an ABC liner, it corroded the liner only where the piston touch the liner. Don't know why. Only reason I could come up with for this is that the antifreeze absorbs water from the air when humid.
3.If you want to unfreeze an engine place use a heat gun or try a bath of 30W non-detergent motor oil in a oven and heat to 200 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes This works great to free up a froze engine.
4. Only use the crockpot method in a well ventalated area. The antifreeze evaporates and there are alot of fumes from it.
5. Do not reuse the crockpot to cook food in as it's ruined for for that.
6. After an over night soak in the crockpot I use Dawn dish detergent, a toothbrush, and water to clean off the antifreeze and gunk. The cooked on stuff usually washes right off with hardly any scrubbing.
7. I've tried several different methodes to brighten up the engines after the bath - Wrights Copper Cream, and Brasso seem to work the best. Brasso and a toothbrush works especially well to get the stubborn gunk off the heads.

Do a search for Crockpot or antifreeze and you'll be able to find more details.

That David Gierke sixty shoot out in MAN bore that out, too.

David

No disrespect intended, but may I suggest that Mr. Ogawa's spirit was hanging out around Dave's that day and that he was influencing the results of that sixty shoot-out, just for hoots. (wink)

Know whatta mean, Vern? (Yeah, I'm a Jim Varney fan)
