Runaround Help
 

Just picked up this Runaround from the same member that I had purchased that Unknown pattern plane from that was in the classified section here. When I went up to Long Beach to pick up the kit ,he asked if I would be interested in the Runaround. After we agreed on the price I loaded it up in my truck. Now is where I could use some help.It has the pilots name and AMA numbers on it. The name is Scott McFarlane. Any body know him? I would like to ask him what he had in it for power.It has mounts for a tuned pipe in 2 locations on the bottom of the fuse. and wing. Came with nice retracts also. Reconize this plane?

Since his AMA number is on the airplane, perhaps the AMA could be of some assistance in locating Mr. Mc Farlane?

SF, I ran into this also about 5 years ago, I call AMA and they gave me his address using his AMA #. I dropped him a letter, he called and answered all my questions. Good luck!! Pete

I tried that last year and they told me they could not give out info because of privacy laws.
I decided to try again today and with Debbies help she contacted Scott and asked if was ok for me to contact him. He said it was fine and she gave me his number. I just got off the phone with him and he answered all my questions about the airplane.It was built in 1989 and powered with a YS120 with pipe when he lived in Utah.Turns out he flew with Dick Hanson. I may try and get a hold of Dick to see if he remembers that airplane.

Hi SF,

My memory is coming back to me. When I moved from Utah in '89, I had just picked up a Tipo+ from Dick's kitter/builder in Logan the day before I left for CA. I had a mid-air with the Tipo at a contest which prompted me to order the Runaround. Probably late '90 to '91. When I flew in Utah I had a Red & White Phoenix 8 (?). The Phoenix was my 1st wing sheet build and I did not do a good job, but the plane flew fine.

The last contest I flew this plane in was around '97 at Mile Square Park. The fall of 97 would have been the last time this plane flew.

I have a Runaround I'm building right now and bought another fuselage on the infamous trading site. I flew one competitively ( well sort of competitively anyway) for about 10 years and lost it to a battery tab failing. It was always my favorite of the pattern planes I flew. I'm happy I have enough to build a couple more. I have the instructions if you need anything from them. They are half sized plans. I also have the cores and instructions for the next version, the Runaway. It just has a slightly different wing planform,but is the same otherwise as far as I can tell.

Dick published the airplane in Model Builder. Dick's airplanes fly great and he had the best pattern column ever.
