1970's Classic Pattern Action Picture's
 

I don't know if this is going to produce a viable picture. I was looking for old Chidgey Tiger Tail picture's, as I want to paint the two I am going to build, just like he did. I found these, and there are many more. One picture is of Bruce Underwood, one picture of Jeff Owen's Compensator, etc. These may be in the Image Pattern Base.

I sent those pictures to the Trenton web site and glad to see so many people enjoying
those old pic. The airplane on the far right is my Compsatior that I flew back in the day. It had a OS 61 with a mac pipe and Kraft retracks and was a great flying airplane. I have a few more pictures of Rons Tiger Tail and have one on the bench myself ...

I'm pretty sure that the second picture (the one with two people kneeling by an airplane) shows Dave Brown on the left, in the pink (circus circus?) jacket. I think that's his wife Sally on the right. Dave's planes always had that same checkerboard finish.

Hey Aurora - Thanks for the nice word's. I spent a lot of time with DB in his basement building Phoenix', before he became DB Products. What a great guy, and his wife Sally. I never got to his flying ability, but liked to compete. We both worked at World Engine's back in the early day's, and were always looking for a new practice field close to work, as the club field was a 25 mile drive. In the evening, after flying a bit, it would be getting dark, I had to put my lights on to go home. Could not see the plane's, and Dave still had to put up one more flight. I think he could have flown those planes blindfolded.

Right you are Jeff, and that is my Bootlegger behind your Deception. The black spot behind the fuselage is the top of the Webra pipe I got from Rhett. That looks like a picture from the Tangerine......

Bootlegger is in the attic, pipe and engine waiting for a plane. Still.

I was going to ID the Bootlegger in those photos, but Al and Ed did. Been a long time but I'm working at getting back into it andI amso glad to see that the old pattern stuff is still out there. I last flew my Bootlegger in the 1980 Nats at Wilmington, Ohio. Back then (I was Novice/Advance) I had the privilege to see the likes of Jerry Worth, Dave Brown, Norm Page, Larry Ott, Mike Mueller, and Tony Frakoviack (sic) and others fly at the Masters level around the Midwest, and they were magic! I could only read about "Rhett the Threat", Hanno, and Wolfgang, but those were some really great pattern flying years. The SPA photos in another forum are great too. Looking forward to seeing more.

Hey Mark - Good to see you still enjoy this. Go to: www.seniorpattern.com You can review all the contest's, etc. Next up is Andersonville, GA, 9/18, then Cocoa, FL, 9/27 weekend. That is a far hop for you, but same for some of us in south FL, the last contest, I drove 722 miles, one way, TN. If you don't have an old pattern plane hanging in the basement, or in the attic, you of course can build one, or get started fast, a World Model's Intruder. Put together, engine, modern radio, ready to go. There may be some senior pattern activity in your area. Attached two of these Intruder's I am flying now, they are ARF's, one original cover, the other stripped and re-covered.

Wow, great to see the "pattern" pic's. Seeing all the great designs, myself, I scratched a Deception with a Webra speed .61, great flying plane, all my activities were on the west coast though. As I read through the post's, it appears that many of "us" old school pattern drivers of the past are still currently active in the hobby after all these years in one form or another. Thanks again for the "memories"

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm hoping to pick up a Chidgey T.T. and a Page Mach I here shortly. Can't make it this year but next year I plan to give it ago at a few of these SPA meets. I've been all over the SPA site too. I ran into Mike Muller on RCU, I used to watch him in awe back the day, believe me that guy could put those classics through thier paces. He probably did the smoothest figurem M and eight-point roll you'd ever seen,as ifthe ship was on rails. Looking forward to getting one in the air next spring, wish I had some old pics but I just can't find any.

Yes there were some good fliers here in the midwest. Jerry Worth could not only fly well but was one hell of a builder but then I am biased as he is my Uncle.

Jerry Worth was a super control line Stunt modeler/flyer too. Come to think of it, he won C/L Scale with his awesome P-26 in the mid 60's.

Yes I know, he still has that P-26.I remember that plane well, in the cockpit when you moved the yoke the controls would move. He could lock it for flying I guess. Also the instruments would react to wind blown into the pilot tube. He and my father competed in CL back in the day, Jerry with the P-26 and my Dad with a B-25. I should scan some of the pic I have and post them somewhere.

Jerry Worth your uncle, imagine that. I watched him fly many times at Kickapoo Woods back in those days. If I recall, was from Harvey, Il right? At least at that time. I do recall he that he was a very good CL flyer as was mentioned. I know that watching the likes of him, Mike Mueller, and Larry Ott as well as others got me hooked on pattern flying. I just regret getting out of it, or was that life getting in the way of it?
