Please help me decide
 

I have just ordered a Tower Kaos as my smaller winter pattern plane.
It will have skis on it when it's alot of snow.

But what engine should I use?
I have these to choose from

OS 45AX just broken in
SK 40 just broken in
MDS 46 just broken in
Macoy 40 no good
Enya 45 real old
OS 40 real old
HP 40 with pipe just broken in
YS 45 with pipe just broken in
Webra 40 from last winter, with 40 flights and one of my most reliable engines ever.

I'm thinking the HP or YS would be cool to use, I like flying with pipes.

Hi,

For the winter in Stockholm ??? - better get Electric, 3-phase motor & controller
and NiCd (not NiMH, nor Li) Battery...
or take some Gasoline one if possible, but...
but if you still prefer Glow, then take the one of those which requires
highest % of Nitro...and lowest % of Oil.
After all, anyway I vote for Webra.

YS 45 w/pipe would be fantastic.
The OS 45AX would be a nice miold mannered reporter, but not superman.

Hi.
Nick, I would never in my life go electric, I don't like it.
I like the smell and sound of an glow engine.
Last winter from 24 -30 of december I was out every day flying with my Webra 40, temperatures was -5 to -15 ° celsius.
No problems what so ever, 4 to 5 flights each day and I used 80/20 FAI fuel with just a little gasoline for the cold.

Lazer, the OS 46AX is my 2 choice right now, the more I think about it the YS would be nice to try during the winter.

Hi Masterson, I would go with the Webra Speed 50, a truly amazing engine, also run perfectly with no nitro.

I would choose Real Flight G5 until it warmed up.

If I still had the urge to fly glow in the Winter, like you, I would choose the YS .45 (first choice) or the OS .46AX (second choice).

Nice that you could chim in, in fact I ordered a G5 and a Kaos.
So do you say that the kaos is in the new G5, I would like more old school pattern planes in the simulator.

So what tank should I use, the YS is pressurising the tank pretty good?
And the best prop, I used a Zinger 11x7 1/2 for break in.

If you would try flying in temperatures in the -15 °celcius with that dense high oxigene air, it's just awesome.
The engines love it, the hard part is to start it the first time, nitro or gasoline helps, and castor is like rubber, thats why you have the fuel in + temperatures in the car and a cig lighter to
warm the engine for the first flips.

I'm a YS fan and think it would be a good choice too... [8D]

I've had a few of these engines over the years and I always run an APC 11x6 for break in to let it turn up a little...That's just my preference.. ;)

I'd recommend using a good quality tank (dubro ect..)...What ever tank you choose I recommend wrapping it with some fiber reinforced packing tape or high quality duct tape (a trick I learned many years ago and do it on all my YS engines)...

I really like the pressurized fuel system and find the throttle response of the YS 45 to be linear and very consistent...Starts with a back flip of the prop (in my climate..he he)...It's a great engine... :D

I recently put a new YS 45 FR in a Oxalys 50 pattern trainer and am very pleased that it does such a nice job on that airframe...I just got it flying before I had to go out of town for work...When I get home I'm going to try some different prop's and plan on running an APC 12x6!!! I think it will turn it fine and my goal is to slow the plane down a bit but maintain or improve the vertical authority it has now...The YS 45 is an impressive engine and I think it's going to work out fine but we'll see...
