RE: Pipe Thru the Canopy Phoenix
When I was building my p-8 Don Lowe told me the best flying Phoenix he had, had the pipe through the canopy eliminating lateral balance issue. If memory serves the motor was a Rossi but I do not remember for sure. a short stroke pipe seems like it would fit well. The only issues I can think of would be fuel tank placement over the CG might be a little difficult and internal heat inside the fuse. This is the reason I decided to invert my Hanno in my p-8, heat, fuel tank, balance and pipe size. After all who would no better than the man himself.
Nice airplane above. gary |

Hey Guy's - Thanks for the info. I just won a P-7 on the bey, that is a 7, a nice Rossi sticking thru the top would be a good project. I am trying to think of his name, saw it once, let it go. An Airborne kit, has Lowe's and Bridi's name on it, I did not know that he teamed up on the series.

I'd like to see some more pics of the "Meridian" in the background. It looks like it has some nice clean lines.

RE: Pipe Thru the Canopy Phoenix
I like it. I want to do a Vertigo that way. The canopy is large enough to completely enclose the pipe.
My old Vertigo's had distinctly different knife-edge characteristics from one side to the other. I theorized that the airflow disturbance from the engine cut-out as well as the exposed engine disrupting the airflow along the fuselage side was responsible. (And I'm sticking to it) I would be willing to bet that an upright or inverted installation would help that out a bit. -Robert |

Most definitely the proper way to utilize a 61 VF!

RE: Pipe Thru the Canopy Phoenix
My mind just jumped to a Meridian with a 140RX shoehorned into it, built to take the stresses of course.
What a weapon it would be at full throttle with a 14-16" pitch prop and quiet too, a real street sleeper....;) Perfect sport plane right there. |
