RE: skyglas vertigo II
You know, the VTGO was a good plane, is a good plane, but.... at that price? The motor mount is installed, is it at least aligned to the thrustline etc?Bet not if a motor mount and motor were'nt used to set it. At least $70-$80 in additional wood plus shipping. Bring on the P-7 Horizon, bring it on! I'm looking at Eureka's Atlas now, looks like a beauty, and not much more to complete the kit's wood.

RE: skyglas vertigo II
that's what i was thinking. $350 seemed a bit high.

RE: skyglas vertigo II
Seriously it is David; it reallyis when you look at what we can get. The glass fuses are great, but look at the build threads, some of these built up fuses are just as nice, really. In fact, the P-7 by Horizon will have a built up wing, no foam, I'm still a fan of built up wings because I can play with the weight more (as in reducing it). My 30 yr old Tiger Tail fuse is very nice, not bragging, and I'll post a pic when I get this danged house and hobby room sorted out.

RE: skyglas vertigo II
I agree wit use guys!! Who knows weather the engine mount is straight, to much glue, too little glue, bad surface prep etc... Just got thatSkynight 6 for $190.00. Think that the price is way to high for some foam and a fiberglass fuse. But you know what they say, one mans junk is another mans treasure!:D

I have had a few of these V-II's. I have one left, it is complete, has the veneer skin's. Paid $125.00. Klxmaster is doing a build thread on one.

RE: skyglas vertigo II
Well, I paid quite a bit more than Crank and a fair amount more than Tim for the P-6, considering the original disussion anyhow. It does have the sheeting for the wings and hopefully it's still useable. Like Tim said though, if it's what I hope it is it's a personal treasure then; but it will get built and it will fly! Now I have to hope it gets here safely.

RE: skyglas vertigo II
It really boils down to what it's worth to the individual...I'll admit that I have "paid too much" for something I really wanted for mostly sentimental reasons...
What bugs me is the way prices have gotten out of control through bidding wars... [:o] Then again I've been treated more than fair on a couple of my dream kits on a one-on-one basis with another classic pattern friend...To me that's the way it should be...It's all about helping one another out... ;) Most of the stuff I have purchased that has been "started" requires re-work or has been scrapped all together...I've lucked out on a couple but been bitten more than lucky... ;) Oh well...People think this stuff is gold or whatever...I'm sure it will change if I ever go to sell something...lol Chuck |
RE: skyglas vertigo II
That really does sum it up Chuck. I knew the few old pattern ships that I want would cost a few bucks, especially if others were interested in it too. I do, however, draw the line when things even begin to get absurd. There are certain kits that I do feel draw a premium, the older all balsa kits mostly. I was interested in that Sig Zlin until it went into the $200 plus range. My NIB Taurus was a tad over that shipped, which to me was a reasonable price.Even the MK kit recentlyat $455 was pricy, but it is a high quality all balsa kit. In any case you're right, if you can get something from a pattern buddy that's likely the best route to go. At least nowI have three down with one to go.

RE: skyglas vertigo II
I have had 5 Vertigo II kits. Skyglas quality typically ran from B- to D+ range. I don't mean to bust that seller's bucket, but that one is probably a crapshoot, quality wise. The firewall and engine mount is factory installed, but has been crooked in 3 out of 5 fuses. The foam is iffy, and can vary greatly from the plans. To be fair, this was made long before CNC cutters.
Look here for what you may expect: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7761143/tm.htm Is it worth it? Up to you. I paid good money for mine. If I wanted one of these fairly obscure airplanes to once again ply the skies, then that is what I had to do. -Robert P.S. If anyone needs V-II cores, I have some extra CNC cut cores. PM me. |
