FAI Manuvers list RC1/F3A from 1960->

Hi,

Does anyone have an overview of the FAI manuvers that was used at various time periods from 1960 (first RC1/F3A World championship) and forward during the classic pattern era (to middle of 1990th)?

It would be interesteng to see the change in manuvers that forced change in the plane design, engines etc.

It is an interesting thing to try to have an overview of and this thread could be a place to post information about this.

So the FAI manuver list that was used at first RC1/F3A World Champoinship 1960 in Switzerland (where Ed Kazmirsky USA took first place) is a good starting point. Who has that to post? And then I hope you oldtimers can add manuver lists and major changes in plane design that was triggered by the change in manuver list at various periods.

Hi,

Great Ray! Exactly things like that Ihoped to see.
It was rather advanced manuvers already in 1960 then, at least considering proportional radios had not been used yet at that time as far as I know. To try to fly that schedule today with a non-proportional multi channel reed typeradio would probably not be easy.

The schedule(s) used at the 1962, 1963 & 1965 WCs (winning models were Perigee, Amanusa & Crusader respectively) have been harder to find although this one was used at some or possibly all of them -

1)Take Off
2)Procedure Turn
3)Stall Turn
4)Immelman
5)Three Inside Loops
6)Three Outside Loops
7)Reversal( Split-S)
8)Two Opposite Rolls
9)Tail Slide
10)Horizontal Eight
11)Cuban Eight
12)Vertical Eight
13)Straight Inverted
14)Inverted Eight
15)Vertical Roll
16)Three Turn Spin
17)Landing Approach
18)Landing

Bo - There doesn't seem to be much interest in these from other forum members so I don't think I will bother researching any more. I guess the BPA. SPA, VR/CS etc use their own schedules rather than the appropriate FAI ones for the period.

Hi Ray,

Thanks so far for Your effort. I hope if anyone else stumble over the other missing lists they keep this thread in mind and if possible post here.

Hi Ray,
Very interesting to me. I love the art work of the "ribbon" style drawings before the Aresti became standard.
Same way in full scale aerobatics, my father and I used these figures when he taught me in the late 60's (we were a little behind the times even then, I'm sure).
I flew at an R/C Classic Pattern event recently and we used SPA and BPA Patterns already established and they all had elements of these patterns you've graciously illustrated here, but you are correct in stating that the ones used are not exactly the FAI schedules.
Thanks for posting them, anyway. It's a great history lesson.

Interesting that the drawing of the Manuvers from 1960 WC does not show  45 deg. straight lines between the two loops of the Cuban Eight. If flown as shown, the rolls would have to be integrated into the curvature of the loops. That would have been very difficult with the models, radio equipment and skills of the pilots from that period including this author.
Drawings for the later WC's do show the 45 deg. lines.

Thank you all for the schedules! I got into RC in 1975 and flew FAI in 1980 and later the old non-turnaround schedules. The good old days! Smooth and graceful maneuvers like the Blue Angels. I wish we still had the ribbon style drawings today much easier to follow but the manuevers have gotten out of hand with crazy snaps and weird rolls sometimes. I do think FAI P23 is OK mostly.
