Tim,

I have the software and know how to use it, why don't I just do it, this way when we get somebody who registers the day of the event, we aren't scrambling.

I've been thinking about hosting a race over in Georgia. I'm wondering what the interest would be. My home field in Jersey, GA could do it, but I was the starter at the 424/EF-1 race down at Mac Hodges this weekend and that is an awesome place to fly. I might ask Mac if we can hold one there.

James we would love to have you in Tuscaloosa on August 9th, there will be lots of good pilots, good competition, and plenty of good food. And the flying field is one of the premier facilities in the Southeast.

Hope you can make the trip, Will

If you have a 3 pole 424/EF-1 race in the Atlanta area, you will get a good turn out from the racers in SC and NC. You need to keep your race date at least a few weeks separate from the other race dates in the region.

Will, I checked the mileage and it is a 5 1/2 hour drive for me. Worst part would be having to go thru Atlanta. I am considering making the trip. Not sure if I would like the flying start. Never done it before.
Will both classes be the flying start?

James,
The club40 is a flying start and does take some getting used to, but it is not that difficult. The EF-1 will be a ROG start. Come on over Friday And we'll help you practice the flying starts.

We have pilots registered from Texas and Indiana as well as surrounding states and they are making return trips so I assume they believe it worth their time

Will, I will dust off my Skyraider and see if I think it will fly good enough. Where do I find the C40 rules that you use there?

James,

I'm east of Atlanta in Loganville, GA. If you'd like to carpool from here we can do that.

James,

The flying start is not that big of a deal. I was there a few years back and did alright with it. Just have to time it. I jumped the the start once by a good bit and did the required loop back and was not too far behind.

Thanks Trey. I will just have to practice how the flying start is done.

Would someone out there please tell me where I can find the Alabama C 40 rules. I want to make sure I have everything in order before I drive over 5 hours.

Thanks for the rules. It didn't say anything about the muffler having a heavier screw to keep it together. I use a heavier screw and JB weld to hold mine together. Legal for 424.
Is it allowed in the Bama C 40 rules?

I have seen people that do that in the past and it has never been an issue

Does this mean the stock shim or just any shim?

Any metal shim, and the discussion as to which shim is best can last awhile.

I want to set up poles to do some practice. From where the pilot stands, how far away are the pylons? How many feet to the center line of the pylons. I know the poles are 400 feet apart. Where will be the start/finish line? Front side or back side?
Some of my club members have offered me help for practice but I don't know how far out to put up the poles.

All kidding aside a lot of people who run these engines in AMA 424 class use a .003 head shim. That is what I run.

James, it's been 2yrs since we laid the pylons out, and I don't remember exactly but my guess is 200 to 225 feet from pilot box to the center pole. We start and finish on the back stretch.
