I will be there and I need to practice a lot. Just FYI, does Alvin pan on 4 rounds of races and top 10 elimination mains C, B and A placing? This is what I prefer but what ever ya'll do, I am content. Just let us know ahead of time so I can plan my "strategy" of props and glow plug changes!!!

Look forward to being there and hope we get out of triple digit temperatures!

Mike, we set the poles up every Wed evening.  Usually around 5 PM and fly until we get thirsty, crash or gets to dark. Not necessarily in that order.   [8D]  And we occasionally have something to eat also.  You're welcome to come on out if you like.

Dont know if anybody is from the Amarillo area but ARKS has started up the pylon racing again. We race on the 3rd weekend of each month we have raced for the last 3 months and have had good turnouts. We have 3 classes,Skyraider box stock with stock 46 engine, you can remove baffle and replace bearing thats all. Open class where you can fly what ever you want to from a .25 size to 50% what ever you fell comfortable flying but no tuned pipe, sport mufflers or race purpose engine like jett, nelson nothing that hot. If it does have a tuned pipe, sport muffler or "race" enigne you will be in the unlimited class where you run what you brung and hope it's enough. I am trying to get the word out so the people will hopefully like to come out and race. Thanks

SkooterII, are you using a two pole or a three pole race course? How many guys are flying the Sky Rader class? Is this a one day or two day event? Just curious, Amarillo is too far for me.

The course is a two pole set up. I believe there are 10 people in the skyraider class if i counted right. Not a real big class but not bad for not racing in two years. It is a one day thing, for right now were just racing for fun but if we can get enough people to come out it would be awesome to have a big event but thats all in time i guess. But like i said its just for fun as of right now and i'm just trying to get more and more people bitten by the racing bug.

Skooter, we all race for fun, but it’s more fun when you win. Here in central Texas we use 40 size sport engines like the Thunder Tiger Pro 40 and the GMS 40 and we follow the Club 40 rules as posted on the RCPRO web site. All planes fly at just about the same speed so it’s the piloting skill that wins the race. The really good pilots have to have their fingers taped together to give the slow guys a chance. I’m still trying to get the sticky stuff from the tape off my fingers.:D

I agree on the  winning part.  Do you guys time the races at all or do any kind of "brackets" for the winners of each race?

Skotter, yes we use timers. They count the laps and time each pilot. We have seven workers to run the race. 4 lap counters who also time there pilot. 2 cut judges, one at each pylon. And a starter. This is the minimum. Sometimes, when we don’t have enough workers, we have pilots that are not racing in the heat to do some timing duties.

Ted, I just got a new pair of 3-D glasses so I can see the pylons better. Been practicing with them on all week and boy do they make a difference. I’ve been clearing the pylons by ½ to ¾ of an inch. I hope the Alvin cut judges have good eyesight. In fact I’ve been flying such a tight course I’ll be using my SLOWEST engine. ;)

I love Cool! Cool makes my plane fly faster; Cool makes my motor run better. Cool makes the oil thicker so my old worn-out GMS runs like new. I love Cool. I have new 3-D sun Glasses that are Cool. My grandkids say I’m Cool for an old guy. This Saturday I will Cool; but I still can’t see worth a crap.[:-]

RACE CANCELLED

All,
I just had a call from a couple of the Alvin Club 40 racers who are down at the field right now and they reported that the wind on site right now is @ 20 mph directly across the runway (kinda fro the NE) and I can see that the wind is predicted to be higher tomorrow and from the same direction.
For those of you that know our site layout, this will present a safety risk where coming off the second pylon you will be pushed over the pit area.
For this reason, I am calling off the race tomorrow.
Could all of you contact as many folks you know that may be planning on coming, I don’t have a list of telephone numbers to call everyone.

Thanks for your understanding.

Steve

Steve,

I was able to talk to Bob Petrenic and Mike Walther and let them know. I don't have any other numbers for the other out of town guys. I'm in the Baton Rouge area and will be right in the middle of the storm.

Don
