Club 40 pilot’s wakeup; Hico TX, the field of dream, is hosting their first race of the 2013 season on May 4, 2013. This is for all you Rip Van Winkle’s who have been sleeping at the switch. If you’re not a Club 40 fan, go back to sleep, but if you are, let’s hear from you. All clubs depend on feedback from those of us that will attend the event so they can be prepared to put on the best race possible. So, let’s all put on our communication hat and let us know if you are coming.

Just as tall, but is an aluminum tower with a short piece of pvc pipe for the flag. No one has broken the aluminum tower yet! Free standing with no supporting strings. Let's race. charles krempin

Tim,
Here are some pictures of one of our favorite Club 40 pylon fields located up in Hico Texas! This is not a big field but the way George & Deborah has incorporated the safety fences, PA system and all the necessities needed for a great flying site! We sure have some awesome racing there!

Gary,
What a lovely field! With that tree near by looks like a case of beer and a midnight trip would take care of that "issue"

That's not the tree that you have to worry about. Ask one of our pilots. I'll try and get a picture posted. ck

Yep, that darn pylon reached right up and grabbed my airplane. How did George make that thing grow so fast??? ;-)

How to make a make a 19' pylon out of a 20' pylon. Dead center hit with and EF-1 racer.

Just goes to show that everything is bigger in Texas!! And I am referring to your pylons.

Up here in Indiana, I have been using the Ultra-Lite pylons. They are 1 1/4 and 1 inch PVC, about 16 feet tall. Last year Sparky hit one of them and knocked it over. No damage to the plane.

Ken everyone here *****es at 1 1/2"-2" diameter pylons. They can't see them, that's what we had of years. This is a 3" diameter schedule 40 PVC pipe and has nearly a 1/4" wall. I must admit you can see them better and they have been hit before, wings, etc. but this was a dead on hit. You can see the wings, wheel pans, etc. are not hurt. Got to get some goal post pads I guess!

So Ken, it’s just not Texas pylons Sparky knocks down!...

You Texas guys don't understand the pylons are "suggestions only" the pylon judge is the only one who needs to see the pylon.
Making them so you can see them is unimportant. If you are more accurate than others in your distance the reward is counterproductive.
15' tall and no more!
Sparky
