RE: Skystreakers R/C Club
The remains of the Venus II have been found. The airplane is not repairable. The radio equipment has been checked out and is working.
The OS FS 110a however lost its head. The rocker cover was ripped off taking with it the rocker mount, rocker arms and pushrods. The
cylinder head damaged and is not useable. The main bearing was noisy and would have needed replacement soon. I tallied the costs
and it is less than half the cost of a new engine so I ordered the parts and started repair. The parts did not come in all at once, replaced main bearing first,
The cylinder head and rocker arms and mount arrived, put that together, thats when I found both valves were bent, more cost. The engine is
fully repaired and tested. Runs great! The engine repair was interesting and fun, however, I should have done more disassembly before ordering the parts.
The bent valves put the total cost over the 50% mark. To repair or not to repair is the question we all have to come to grips with.

Ran up the motor on the speedster, it locked up and threw the prop and every thing else as well, I jumped back when this happend and stepped on my radio breaking the rudder trim tab wich will not work now .
Not sure if I will have a plane to fly on Sat.
I will keep you posted.

Glad that you were not hurt Tim, sorry to hear about your Radio. Hope you can get a quick turnaround at Horizon repair center. I would offer to loan you my DX7 but I just sold it Wednesday night wouldnt ya know it I have had that for 2 years incase of an emergency like this.. Ask Ray at the hobbie shop if he has a spare to loan out while you are waiting for yours to be repaired. If he doent have a spare we could set up what ever you want to fly on my 9503 and take turns with it, we just cant both fly at the same time.
If that Rearwin Speedster is still on 72 mhz I have a spare 7 channel 2.4 reciever you can use to swap it over and fly it with your DX8
Hi Joe Sorry to hear of the Venus II loss I dont think I remember seeing you fly that one. Great job on the engine rebuild, you the MAN!!
I made some shims for the Decathalon floats last night but it now needs longer bolts, its always something. I cut out some more exit on the cowl also but it was dark by the time I got to that so I couldnt do an engine test to see if it took care of the problem, maybe get to that tonight.

Thanks Steve,
It was th Dx8 I am pretty mad at myself, looks like I will need that hole Gimbel replaced. Oh well, I think I will fit the DLE 20 in that thing today, and I can use the clubs 6i to fly it if I have to.
Wish me luck LOL

Bummer on the DX8
Good Idea for using the DX6i for your Rearwin, offer still stands if you want to fly your Yak or Beast with my 9503, the yak would be easily set up to fly with my radio. the Beast would take a lot more time to set up but could be done.
It may take you a bit to get adjusted to the extra tall gimbals I have, you may even get to like them if you have big hands, if you use the pinch method you may not notice a difference.

Still have to figure out and install the throttle servo,
Tank is in and plumbed.

The weather surprised me today, I was expecting cold with some wind but by noon it was in the 30s with no wind at all... Drove over to the field , it is plowed out. I put in a few flights with the mini beast and the mini pulse. so nice to fly again... wish I had known ahead so I could get some others out there.
Looking forward to seeing you all out on the field soon.
