RE: Skystreakers R/C Club
Hey Tim
Your yak has big enough wheels so your plane may not need skies, not sure if my RV8 will make it with out them. I have dubros I can thro on in tonight just in case.
I used some foam pipe insulation on my heli last time it snowed made great skies\pontoons.
For the dle 30 I think I will attempt replacing it myself. I asked Ray & Robbins to order me a new prop hub, and I will need to find a gear puller to borrow to remove the old one.
may find one in my dads garage who knows, there is a lifetime collection of stuff in there.

RCMaddnessP51,
Your P51 and its pilot are definately stars, along with Airweb, Charlie, Carl, Steve and their hangars full of airplanes.
Two thoughts:
1. There must have been a very special secret ingredient in them brownies to make Charlie so mellow with his comments postedon this site . . . .
2. Looks like there is little a person could need, that is not in your shop, to build or repair just about anything.
Regards,
LastChance

Hi everyone now that the holidays are over . Maybe we can start thinking about the OPEN HOUSE for this year ! WE need to get thing in line now !
WE need to get the posters made up and maybe think of advertising at the news papers, the cost for this and maybe the cost of Food this year, and we need the most important is volunteers and that is you. With setups and flight instructors .That is a commitment to be at the open house that weekend ! I think we had lots of FUN last year .
Just a thought Chaz

RE: Skystreakers R/C Club
Chaz,
I will help with the setup and work the open house weekend.
Would like to bring a card table and sign up visitors for trial flights with an instructor. That wouldinclude keeping track of who is next in line for practice flights and handing them off to the next available instructor, pre-flight them by showingwhat the sticks are for on a transmitter and what to expect when flying with the instructor, and giving them a certificate when they finish. That way the instructors can concentrate on flying, not crowd control.
Bill Lairsey has offered to supply certificates similar to what were given out at thePropsnappers open house last year.

RE: Skystreakers R/C Club
Great ideas on getting this organized.
From what I recall of last years trainer flights at the open house. I wasnt expecting so many to be there so I was unprepared and overwhelmed
1.) we were flooded first thing so ariving before 9 and setting up the traineres would be a major improvement.
2.) we had some issues getting aircraft working so having a ground crew to set up the planes and keep them fueled be a huge help.
have all of the planes preflighted before the day of the event.
3.) what Dave said. have some one do a pilot breifing\ground school so the instructor can consentrate on taking people up.
4.) what Dave said. Have the lead guy just run the flight log and schedule student with instructor
I would guestimate we should have at least 4 instructors plus a ground crew, Planes fueled and ready to go at 9AM
If you have 2 flight line this should be good if you have 3 flight lines it dosent allow for the instructors to take a brake.
The club should deside how many trainers sould be alowed up at the same time so that the trainers don't hog the sky.
I like the certificate Idea, it would be cool.
Ps. I would like to assist.

RE: Skystreakers R/C Club
Hi all,
Just wanted to let every one know that the gate combination has been changed. If you plan on flying this winter, please contact Carl for the gate combo. It will be posted on the website once the march 31 grace period has passed.
Thanks and have a great winter flying season.

RE: Skystreakers R/C Club
Hi Guys,
Two questions:
1. What product do you recommend for fuel proofing the engine and interior fusealage compartments?
2. I get dribbles of thin CA when gluing control surface hinges. Am using debonder to remove. Getting CA residue smears. Would Acetone be better to use. What type of cloth applicator? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave Field

RE: Skystreakers R/C Club
I usually do not fuel proof inside compartments. I have used thinned epoxy before with success. Be carefull if weight is an issue, it can add up fast.
De-bonder is probably the best bet for cleaning the thin ca from your covering. Be carefull not to let the de-bonder soak into the hinge area, it could weaken the bond there. Not good. I usually put the de-bonder on a clean cotton cloth over my finger and gently ruboff the ca. It usually takes several repeatitions using a clean spot on the cloth each time to get all of the haze off. I do not know what acetone does to ca.

Hi Dave - I just stumbled on this thread.....
For fuel proofing - Epoxy works well, and dope is also fuel proof, so too is CA
I use q-tips soaked in acetone to clean up CA....
