Can anyone ID this plane
I found this ad for a 5' wingspan plane that someone got that knows nothing about it other than the wingspan and the fact that he was told it's an OS 4 stroke motor in the plane.He has never flown it and knows nothing about it but the price is right at $175 or less.Does anyone know who may have made this model?http://images.craigslist.org/3E13Fa3...1a0e2510e1.jpg

Thanks, I think for the price I had better go look at it.He says the motor turns over and he is into RC trucks but there are no electronics in the plane and he did not try to start it. I looked at Tower Hobbies at their 1.20 Stearman that they show but it's a 6' wingspan and this one is a 5'.

It's about the right size and shape for an Andrews Aeromaster 1st. edition, but without seeing more it is pretty hard to tell.

It isn't a big deal to not know who made it. An online CG calculator will give you the CG, and any manual for a similar sized Stearman will give you the control throws you need. Even if you wind up needing parts like a cowl it's not generally too hard to find one that fits if you do some careful measuring. The real wildcard is what the engine is worth. If it just needs cleaning up and has a good liner, then it's a decent buy. But if you price Saito and OS liners and pistons, a shot engine is practically worthless.

Hi Everyone;
Greetings from the ever warm 'Valley of the Sun'.
It looks like a Stearman to me also, and about the only 50" span one I know of is Nick Zirolis', published in Flying Models magazine, Nov 73 issue, plan #CF 313. What do the rest of you think?
I also agree, if the price is rite, buy it. Will close for now, best regards from Glendale, Arizona,
Joe Nagy.

I think Joe might have got it. Here is one sold on Ebay:

The fuse ridge still has my stumped unless one version (Sammy Mason's Checkers maybe?) had it.

Doubtful it's a Sterling. They say on the box 64.5", but measure 65" when built. Also, the Sterling has ailerons only on the bottom wing. The Ziroli is 51". Looks like a .40-size.

And when I got there I found that indeed what he called 5' on the top wing was more like 5 1/2'.The motor turned out to be an OS FS .91.The build was pretty poor overall when you got to looking at it too so I just passed on the deal.Oh well, nice day for a drive anyway.But I was able to give him some ideas on how to sell it and what his motor was worth assuming it would run to someone who wanted one.
