It is amazing how much "junk" can accumulate over 20 years. I figure if it hasn't been touched in 20 years, I don't need it, so started tossing it. So far filled one 30 yard dumpster, and working on the second. The garage junk filled the first one. I can't believe how BIG the garage is now. I still can't fit 4 cars in, I have a few things on the one wall that will be used downstairs in the coming weeks, but once gone can finally park 4 vehicles in there. I bought a bunch of shelving and put them up on the back wall, bought a new tool cabinet to replace the two destroyed ones I have now. When two female barn cats decide they like sleeping in the garage, and certain people put food out for them, in the garage, they tend to mark their territory and one or both really liked marking my tool boxes for some reason. Both were fixed so why the marking I don't know. All I know is man is that stuff corrosive. One got hit by a car last year and had to be put down, the mother of that one is still around but deaf, and she has been spending her time in the barn, but has been coming around back to the garage and I have been chasing her out, but being deaf I can't yell her out, but I can sneak up on her and watch her jump. She is the last of our original barn cats, about 17 years old now, but a new family has arrived, and live across the road, but come around every night to be fed, outside of course, and one of them we were able to trap and got fixed, now he comes up to be petted and rubs against us. Trying to trap the others to get them fixed through TNR, and we got two very friendly orange kittens that ran up and climbed my wife, so she took them in and trying to find homes for them. One is named Lucipurr, the other I call Sindari.

Whats strange is these two little boys came from one of the feral cats, but act as though they have been around people since day one. They are very gentle when playing, never use open paws when batting, use the scratch pads, the litter boxes, the only time they get to teeth and claws is if you get them on their backs and rub their bellies, which is normal, but if you play with them with your hands, and they bat at you then are all soft paws. They go in for getting nuetered next week and get their shots. We thought we found someone who would take them both, but found out they lost their house and the apartment they have wont allow pets. I want to see them both go to the same home if they can.

ETpilot, looks like my back yard. We backup to a state park and are visited by a lot of different wildlife. Enjoy your new place looks beautiful.

Thanks. I’m sure I will enjoy the new home. I just have to get used to the winter. Having Deer show up has been a surprise. This new house is in more of a city setting than a country setting. I’m not sure where they come from. But they show up periodically. Along with birds, squirrels and rabbits. It is country living in the city. I can handle that. Lol.

Deer were nesting in my hay field this spring/summer. Because of lack of rain I only did a cutting about mid July, and as I was cutting I could see dents in the field where they were laying down.

I see those Deer dents in my pasture often when the hay field is high. While I was in PA the wild hogs tore up part of the runway. I mowed it only in the hopes I can maiden this one foamie that I finished last September. I’m taking the foamie to PA next trip and, hopefully, try out my flying area next to the house. It is named after a granddaughter who lives in NYC. She will be there watching. I may have to move back to Texas if that foamie doesn’t fly.

I wonder how Mike, Flyer in OKC, is getting on in England. I expect that his neice is getting married today. Most weddings in England take place on a Saturday. If so she doesn't have a bad day for it. Some rain forecast around breakfast time but otherwise clear, 21 C (69F) and light winds.

I expect we'll hear about his adventures when he gets back.

Hey acdii, do you have or have you used dual axle trailer tire changing ramps? I made this ramp for my cargo trailer. I’m getting ready to pack the bearings. This will make it easy. I used my tractor as the test tow vehicle. While it worked, the tractor is not the best tow vehicle for this job. Now I’m thinking of adding a warning horn so I know when I’m close to the tire stop block. Just a thought. May do without. Where is Radio Shack when you need one.

I have for my horse trailer, but wont work for the 5th wheel as there is too much axle drop. I use a bottle jack after raising the side up with the levelers.

The dog was duly delivered to my custody yesterday. Although I always thought that Tiko was a dog, it turns out that she's a *****, ( a female dog for heaven's sake! Political correctness gone mad!) Not that it makes any difference to me! Frans and Ann always referred to the dog as "he" but though they speak excellent English and French, their first language is Flemish so perhaps something has been lost in translation! She was understandably a little unsettled at first not having two other dogs to play with but I was anticipating that for the first few days. She has over 3000 square metres to run around in but I'll keep her tied up for two or three days until she gets used to her new environment. I took her for two good walks yesterday so that she can get used to me. Unfortunately my camera seems to have stopped working, it's just a black screen when you switch it on though the battery is reading over 6 volts. I'll take it to the flying field tomorrow. We have two or three camera buffs in the club and it's a good make, a Sony, so maybe it can be repaired but maybe it's just a victim of 21st Century obscelesence. Consequently I cannot take a picture of her but she looks like the dog in the picture. I'll take her for a walk once the sun's up.



P.S. How do you know when you have given a dog enough food?

Beautiful dog! I think you will be pleased that she is a female. Male dogs tend to be problematic, IMO. I have a Chihuahua male and he is a royal pain at times. I have a 70 pound Black Lab. I keep a coffee cup with the dog food. For the Lab I feed her one cup in the morning and one cup in the evening. Seems to work and keeps her weight in check. For the little ones that I have, I split one cup between them and feed them once a day.

You can start a routine like this and see how it works. Weighing her periodically will tell how it is working. You don’t want her overweight. Have her checked for heart worms. Start her on heart worm medicine if she is not already on treatment. My Lab got heart worm initially and it was an expensive and royal pain procedure to cure her. She gets tested every year.

I have a dog that is dumber than a box of rocks in a river. He barks at nothing, but when someone is in the drive, not a sound. He also slobbers, I have had 3 collies, and he is the only one that slobbers and man, is he dumb.

One cup of dog food in the morning and evening is what we do also for our chocolate lab. She would eat till sick if not monitored, she’s always claiming to be hungry.😏

The previous owners fed her in the evening. I have been giving her a large mug of dried dog food and half a tin of meat and vegetables in the evening. I also give her a handful of the dried stuff first thing in the morning and another handful as a reward after our morning walk.

No, it doesn't sound like you're starving her. A lot of people overfeed their dogs, anyway.
She may try to make you think you are, though. Dogs can be sneaky.

Yes, dogs can be sneaky. My son's late black lab, Daisy was sneaky. I'd give her a treat after she approached the back door so she could go out and relieve herself, also congratulate her. But then, she started doing it more often, making it look like she was making pee, looking back at me who was peering out the back door, so she could get another doggie treat.

Overweightedness is bad for an old dog. Black labs tend to have hip problems, so my son carefully watched her diet, giving the same amount ETpilot feeds his bigger dog with. Daisy around 13 years old, finally succumbed to paralysis in the hind legs, my son had to euthanize her.

Dog ownership. Day 3.

The night before last I put Tiko into the cellar to sleep on an old army blanket. I left the cellar door open so that she could go outside in response to a call of nature. Yesterday morning I woke up, put a handful of dry dog food in her bowl, went down to the cellar but she wasn't there! I called her but she did not come. Imagining that she had been hit by a car in the night or that she had walked all the way back to her former home which is fifteen minutes away by car, I climbed into the van and drove round our usual dog walk routes, no sign of her.

I returned home to pick up her feed bowl determined to drive to her former home. What was I going to say to her previous owners if she'd been run over? I parked in the road outside my house when what should I see bounding up to see me across the front lawn but Ma Petite Louve, my Little Wolf as one woman had dubbed her!

Heaven knows where she had been but she had mud on her nose. Perhaps she had recognised the sound of the van. It has a five cylinder engine so its note is quite distinctive. Anyway, I took her for our longest walk and when we got home, she jumped into the van and stayed there all morning even though the van was stationary! I even left the van door open but she just slept on the front seat. I was worried that she was ill but she soon perked up when her previous owner, Frans, visited me!

She never leaves the garden but I have no gates at the front and the road outside is fairly busy. If she saw a cat on the other side of the road, she might try to chase it and get hit by a car. I'll have to price up the cost of a pair of gates!

I'm sure we'll get used to one another! My camera is still not working properly so I cannot put up any pictures of her.

I'm glad it worked out for you. It could have been very bad with a busy road nearby. You do need a fenced yard for dogs, IMO. Dogs can easily chase something of interest. If store bought gates are not doable now, see if you have a place where you can get a piece of field fence that you can stretch across the opening.

I welded up 2 large gates for mower access into the dog area. This next trip to PA I’m going to take them with me. I’ll then use a field fence to close the gap. I plan to install a field fence in PA. The Lab needs a good area to run. The field wire is 4 feet high with a 2x4 wire pattern.

Have you ever wondered how many models you've built. I'm not one of those modellers who records every model he's ever built and who logs every flight but in an idle moment I made a list of all of the models which I've built. I built the first model when I was eleven years old, I am now seventy-three! I thought I'd built more but apparently not. Having said that I keep remembering other models which I have now have to add to the list!

In my case it only amounts to 28 models built from kits or plans plus a further 14 which I bought ready-made, some requiring considerable refurbishment. Three of these are yet to be flown.

In addition I have assembled eight ARTFs four of them foamy electric powered models but we don't count them do we!

Awaiting their turn on the building board are eight kits and an ARTF B17 Flying Fortress. I won't live long enough to build them all.

Anybody fancy a 1/6 scale Fokker DVII kit or a DB Sport & Scale 1/4 scale SE5. The Fokker is not the Flair kit but something rather more involved. Please bear in mind the cost of postage from France. PM me if interested for details.

It's not that big a list compared with that of the British aeromodelling journalist Peter Russell. His "363 Delta" was apparently the 363rd model he had built!

How about all the ones built, but not flown? Repaired and not reflown? Started building but left on the side because others have taken your interest, or was too complex at the time. That's me. 13 in the trailer at the moment, only 3 have been flown.

I am surprised when someone speaks to models they have built years before. I can remember several models I have built but definitely not all there is just too many.
some I have built as many as six or so copies and when my son lived close by I always built two of everything. I currently have two BUD NOSEN P-51's under construction. and at least five or six others that need completion or repair. Heck, I am not sure if I can name all the planes I have hanging in my shop now. I know I have little idea of how many or what all the types of engines I have, to be honest I don't really care!

At this time of my life I think it is wise for me to divest of most of my model holdings, I truly will not live long enough to build or use them all. I dread the thought of letting them go but the reality of it all cannot be denied, leaving all this stuff for my family to handle is not good. anyway, I can use the cash money.

My priorities have changed the past 2 years, so I spend far less time in my workshop building than before, and extremely less time flying. I too am considering selling some of my planes because of it. I still want to build a few warbirds, but as far as getting more plans and kits, I have more than enough than I can ever finish in 20 years.

Last year I moved my office into my workshop, when not working, I could spend time on the planes. Well THAT never happened, and now I spend so much time at my desk that I want to get out of here. I am also remodeling and repairing the house, so that is taking priority. Next year begins my farming career as I will be turning the 3 acres of pasture into a hay field. Over the weekend I picked up some equipment needed, got a hay baler for $1200 that is in really good shape considering it is 48 years old. The rake I got for $650 but found out I need to replace a drive axle as it got all chewed up getting delivered. That could cost me $700 to repair, but it is still far less than what others are listing for, so still ahead of the game. I still need a haybine, which may be the biggest expense aside from the tractor, but the tractor has other uses. I placed an order for a new Kubota, the price was right where I needed it to be in order to keep my B2410 with backhoe.

My idea is debatable with some, but the overall goal is not to make a profit off 3 acres, financially its a bust to buy a new tractor in order to make hay, but there is a huge incentive to it. Because we have horses, the county reassessed the property to full residential, raising property taxes on the full 5.2 acres to the maximum rate. Converting 3.2 acres to crop will reduce taxes, by at least $2000 a year, maybe more. That reduction in escrow can be applied to the principal instead, paying the house off 11 years sooner. Whatever I make on the bales of hay can go towards fertilizer and upkeep of equipment. Wont make any profit off it, but hopefully break even on expenses, tractor payment not included. What will be nice is no longer sweating my ass off and getting burned while cutting the grass, or freezing it off in the winter clearing the snow as the tractor has a HVAC cab on it. Since I spent less than what 1 item costs at a dealership on two items I am ahead of the game and with luck my first cutting pays for them, and if I can find a good deal on a mower, 3 cuttings will pay for it all. Then the hay making equipment would be paid for and just upkeep and supplies after that. I am not factoring my tractor payments into the mix. I set aside $5K from the refi cash out for this project, the rest goes towards the house repairs. So far sticking to budget. All comes down to what the mower costs.

acdii don’t forget your Federal Income tax. Since you will be operating as a business there are tax benefits you can apply. Since you are starting up and purchasing equipment you will be operating at a loss. This loss will lower your adjusted gross income which is always nice. Find an account that can work with you on your operation and your Federal Tax Return.

I have like 7 airplanes I plan to take to PA. Two are foamies. I’m going to concentrate on foamies and park flyers as I can fly those at home. The bigger airplanes will have to go to the local club. I’m going to box up the airplanes and hope they survive the long trip to PA.

Since U-Haul raised rental prices, I’m applying rental money to fix my truck up. So far I’ve had a new clutch installed. The old one went 368,120 miles. AMAZING!! I’m working on the brakes now and greasing the bearings on the truck and the trailer. Very messy work. Just catching up on maintenance I should have done long ago.

I did a comparison between my gooseneck trailer and U-Haul. My trailer is comparable to a 20 ft truck. Since I will be carrying mostly shop equipment, there will be plenty of topside open space. I hope to secure the airplanes in that open space. Just busy times.

Well guys we made it back home early Saturday morning. We cut the trip short due to my wife falling down some stairs and smacking the back of her head into a concrete floor. Our doctor saw her today and I take her in early for a CT scan. I have a doctor's appointment myself tomorrow, seems I am showing signs of a TIA. More later.
