Hi Donny, as David said, i live in The Emerald Isle and the grass is very thick and lush. On this particular day, the grass was due to be cut but wasnt cut until the following day. I had a noseover but not the problem so much of the grass, my main landing gear needed to be bent forward more which i successfully done later that evening when i got home to the workshop. My second RC forum 53 here the 4 right around the corner unfortunately. Have built models since I was a kid did the old rubber band planes things like that never actually flew until I was in my late 30’s and can’t even remember the planes name but did the ultimate oh no and she flew away never to be seen again. Last month purchased a Ranger 1220 and a couple 2 channel babies to get used to controls again, taxied the Ranger for 2 days up down the road again getting used to controls. Finally took the Ranger up on Wednesday what a great feeling forgot the sensation I got from feeling free. Yea made some mistakes talking to a neighbor flying not good for a beginner of course I crashed but since have been flying the Ranger at least 10-20 a day. We’re in the middle of the tropical storm right now hopefully next week brings better weather so I can get back out.the other forum I joined my very first post got deleted without a reason at all hoping to find a group that’s laid back like myself where I can learn but mostly enjoy a friendly conversation

Thanks I’m a really laid back person, I just want to learn while enjoying the hobby would be even nicer to find someone local to me that could teach me. I’ve learned the hard all on my own so far have gotten comfortable flying have not attempted rolls etc yet. Think my time will come no need to rush things before I’m ready

I flew the Super Frontier Senior (SFS) yesterday powered by my Thunder Tiger 54. See Post 11598. While the engine was capable of flying the model, unsurprisingly I needed to use almost full power most of the time. The exhaust is worn on the engine. The cockpit canopy was covered in black oil residue after the first flight, a combination of oil and aluminium dust. I know a tame engineer who can probably fit a helicoil insert into the exhaust port. I felt that the model would also benefit from a little more weight in the nose as I had to use over 70% of down trim so I will fit my beloved OS 61FS Surpass which will kill two birds with one stone. I'll also introduce a little side thrust.

I plan to fly it in this configuration this afternoon. I'll take some photographs.

Unfortunately I found out the hard way that my OS is not a Surpass as I'd thought but the previous version which is less powerful than the Surpass. It's also 5 ounces or 142 grammes heavier than the Thunder Tiger 54.

So having got the engine running perfectly I tried to take off from our 80 metre long tarmac or bitumen runway. I found out that I was driving a car! Back to the pits, check centre of gravity by holding two finger tips under the wing, it was very nose heavy. Remove cowling with its embedded lead, check the cg and try flying it without the cowling. It trundled down the runway and staggered into the air. It took several circuits for it to reach a safe altitude so concluding that it was too under-powered for a novice I brought it into land. It does float a bit doesn't it.

I now have to decide which engine to use. The engine mount is adjustable so I could fit an OS 52 Supass which I'd forgotten about until yesterday evening when I sorted through my engine collection. The previous owner used an SC 52 FS in the SFS. I bought the OS 52 second hand, I've run it on the test stand but never in a model. I've got a few two-strokes too but this model deserves a four-stroke.

I've also got several unemployed Lasers ranging from a 70 to a 90. The unusual configuration of the Laser prevents a straight swap but I've got an engine mount which would suit them. I'm leaning towards using the 75 as the others are earmarked for a Bristol Blenheim, a Hawker Hurricane and a Dennis Bryant AT6 Harvard if I ever live long enough to get them all finished!

Morning all, got to actually get a few flights in yesterday I’m still not able to post pics. The tropical storm winds let down some figuring flying in wind is a needed skill so what the heck I did. Had some beautiful flights actually landing on the road I live on all but once of course I misjudged landing on grass with a tip over. Nice living very rural to do landings like this and I did order another battery decided to try a 3s 2200 vs the 1300’s I’ve been using. The plane came with a predator battery I also purchased a spectrum smart G2 battery with charger which I love my only complaint is I have to time flights with it as I’m using factory electronics so no low battery warning from the low battery devise I use with the Predator one. Some day maybe I can learn how to replace to electronics to allow that on the receiver. The second plane I’m looking towards is the T-28 BNF standard landing gear but am looking at the NX8 as a receiver maybe y’all can help if I’m going the right way here but spectrum seems to be the electronics I’m looking towards. Congratulations Bill! I can't help on Spectrum, we don't use them at the local field here because the field has some sort of interference that is real good at shooting Spectrum down. Most fliers are using Futaba without complaint except for the usual amount of "dumb thumbs" incidents. I have a partially built Pilot T-28 I need to finish in my hanger. I bought the project with missing tail feathers, ailerons, and canopy so I need to get a canopy before starting on it. I was able to secure a copy of the plans so I should be able to make the missing parts.

Would love to see it as you’re doing the rebuild, I’ve only built a basic years ago like god 30 or so. One of the old nitro start and it flew in circles no remote at all!! I had a helicopter that did the same just was never able to find the money to actually repair it as a poor teenager. Reason why I was looking at Spectrum is on the T-28 BNF the factory installed receiver is made by spectrum and they listed the NX-8 as to just bind and fly. Figured the NX8 just for the added channels as I progress in flying to give me more options than say the NX6 where I’m stuck to 6 channels vs 8. Rather buy once with one that allows me to grow and if I go further to needing say 10 or more channels I can upgrade then.

Bill, I have been using Spektrum for about ten years. I've only ever had three radios in thirty-three years of flying r/c aeroplanes. My first radio was a Sanwa Conquest in 1988 which I replaced with a Futaba FF6 with six model memories! It was described as "A helluva thing!" by an old friend of mine at the time.

I switched to using a Spektrum DX6i, then a DX9 transmitter. I have had a few problems with the DX9 but I must have owned it for the last eight or nine years. I belong to a club with thirty-three members, most use Futaba radios but about ten of us use Spektrum. None of the other Spektrum users have had any trouble with their equipment.

I have found the new AR 410 and AR620 receivers to be very reliable and excellent value for money.

Excellent I’ve done a lot of online searches think we all know how they go so I figured asking real users would be the way to go. I had thought about Futaba but when I read they use the spectrum receiver and was an easy bind just seemed the way to go.

That’s a lot of power speed think will be a good option as I grow. I’m going through some eye issues right now being kicked by a new horse 4 weeks ago. Had to have my eye socket rebuilt and crazy someone at the hospital stole my prescription glasses go figure just my luck. I’m still going through the remains of the tropical storm here so no flying last 2 days. Have to post some pics once I’m allowed but looking at all as positives I’m still alive that the most important thing. Stay safe all
