You guys think YOU got good deals? I brought home 3 NIB planes and it didn't cost me a dime
PS, I'm deleting your shipping addresses [sm=lol.gif]

Somehow I knew you were gonna say that.

Booth babes were in short supply this year. I only saw one scantily-clad young lady. I told my son to get a shot but he didn't.
I do better with the older ladies that know what they're talking about, even if their husbands are standing right there you can get deals from them with a little sweet talking. Learn from the master!
Oh yeah, we made the trip across the bridge to load up on food at Tony Packo's eating hot dogs and fried pickles on the way home. Three dipping sauces but I couldn't get anough of the salsa. I brought home a case of pickles, peppers, tomatoes and other stuff from the store in the back.
I posted some shots this morning in the General boating forum. Feel free to use any of them. I hope that somebody got a vid of the robot at the Horizon Hobby booth, that thing was too cool!

How many of you went by the Sullivan booth and would have killed for a hot dog? That hot dog toaster that they had was smelling good! They should have been selling those things, they would have made a fortune! Every year I hear people asking about those and where they got it.

The Corsair with #18: VERY authentic scheme on it.
Then I noticed a name on the placard by it: Phil Von Ville. That is the guy I met at the Corsair Gathering/ Indianapolis Airshow a few years ago. He claimed to be the pilot of that very plane (a U.S.S. Bennington based F4U-1D). Said he crash landed it on the carrier, and the plane was tossed overboard. There is a picture of this plane in several Corsair books, showing it after the crash landing. Phil was injured, and that was his last Corsair flight (so his story went).
So, any info more ifo on that Corsair? Do you know if Phil is listed as the builder?
Anybody have any info on this guy?

Here are some more pictures that I took yesterday. I'm sure that JWN will have more to upload too once he gets home tonight.
First off. The team over at Horizon were proudly showing off their new flight simulator which is called FS One. Unfortunately I couldn't get my hands on the sticks to try it, but from what I saw on the screen it was pretty amazing.
Next was the crew at Slimline. When I asked what they were showing off this year they quickly pointed me to their new field caddy. It was a very sharp product that doesn't look like and flight box I've ever seen. It's got features such as an included power panel, glow driver recharger, and a system to conceal the wires for your starter. Slimline also had their complete line of extreme pilot figures on hand too (I have to admit that I couldn't leave the show without one).
Last up for this post is QuiQue's Aircraft. Quique took some time out from talking with show attendees to show me his Yaks that he had at the show. The are gorgeous plane, I had a hard time leaving without one.

I was really happy to see that B & B specialties had their stock at the show. I needed to order a cups mount for my G-38 and being able to pick it up at the show saved me the shipping. But then I had to let Minnflyer talk me into getting the spring starter for it too (ok ok, he really didn't have to do too much talking!!! ).
While I was there they took some time to show off a couple of new products they had at the show. The first was their wheel collar pants mount. The other item they were showing off was their smoke system. They also had their line of tanks that can be used with either gas or smoke.

WOW! I wish I had gone to Toledo this year!
BTW, I hope you won't mind if I 'steal' the pics and post them in another forum? If so, just delete the posts

Just some Toledo observations...
It was my first trip to the show and I wasn't sure what to expect...There's certainly a lot of hype surrounding this event.
I was there on Friday and I was surprised the building was so hot and stuffy...It was cold outside, but it seemed like there wasn't much in the way of ventilation...
Anyway, there were some really fine examples of model building on display. Nice to see people are still building...
I stopped by the Cox booth to see their Duelist 40 twin ARF and a T-28B. They look pretty good, but do seem rather expensive.
The price tag on the Duelist was over $300 ($329 I believe). Just didn't look to be worth that much...
Over all I found it to be a ok. I think if I was in the area I would stop by, but I won't be making another trip, just for the show...

Just goes to show: you can't please all of the people all of the time.
This year was the 1st time I had to miss it in many years, and now knowing that a WW II combat veteran Corsair pilot was there WITH his model of the full scale that he flew, I really regret not going there this year.
I am usually very excited the night before I go there, just like when I was a kid the night before Christmas. I have never had a bad time there, yes it was crowded at times and I know better than to wear a jacket inside, but there are just so many things to see and admire (and so many things to buy also). The food is way over-priced, but that gives me the oppotunity to step out for a while and take my wife to lunch at a GOOD restaurant (I usually have to spend a few bucks on her after spending all that for myself when at the show, but it's well worth it).
That static displays alone are usually worth the trip, then there is the swap shop, and the vendors showing their latest and offering great deals
The trip for me is about 200 miles (one way), and has been well worth it every time.

You should be there on Sat. I agree, not much ventilation. Saturdays in when most of the really good models show up. I was there on Friday last year and the model lineup was good, by 10am on saturday it was WAY better

Next year I may just have to make sure I go for 2 days. A lot will depend on if I'm going pictures for RCU again. If not I could see the show in one day, but if I am taking pictures I'll need to go for 2 days because I didn't have time to make it to everything I wanted to. I didn't get to check out the swap shop upstairs, and I didn't go to the auction saturday night either. But that's a year away, we'll see what happens next year.

You can actually get allot done on Friday. Next year I think I'm gonna do Sat and Sun. Something tells me Sunday is the better day to get the really good deals

CorsairJock, I went down I-69 this year and hit the toll road, a much nicer drive and seemed like faster than going I-94 to 23.
Bill, Sunday's are a Catch-22, a lot of the good stuff may be gone but people are willing ot deal just so they don't have to pack up and haul it home. I've even gotten deals on fuel as Ritch's one year had only 3 gallons to sell before he could start breaking down their booth.

UPDATE: I did a Google search: "VMF 123 Corsair" and found this, a story about the builder of that great looking Corsair model, and a war hero.
SOMEONE has GOT to do a STORY on THIS GUY! I mean; a magazine article.
Model Aviation please, is anyone listening? He was there at Toledo!
How about RC Report. Send Miss RC Report out to do an interview, I'm sure he'll open up!
Check it out:
http://www.uss-bennington.org/stz-19...r_okinawa.html
Another search:

While I'm at it, a picture of the full scale is on page 146 of "CORSAIR, The F4U in World War II and Korea" by Barrett Tillman.

Bottom left of this corner guy looks like he's grabbing a pattern plane with a red/white/blue (Texas flag) trim scheme....is that what it is?
Anyone see it/get any info on it or am I imagining it?
