Default Great Planes gripe

I'm really PO'd with great planes. I ordered an Extra 300s .40 arf last thursday from my lhs and received it today (due to useless delivery company that was supposed to deliver it yesterday). Was hoping to have it built and flying for the weekend but there was no hardware in the box and of course there was no one available at the distributor to deal with the problem. So I can't even prepare anything to speed up the build process as the distributor may want it sent back.

Has anyone else experienced problems like this with Great Planes?

Sorry if I bored you with my rant but had to get it off my chest.

I haven't gotten a kit yet that had everything right in 10 yrs. The kits themselves are top notch so I keep getting them. The ARF have been about 50-50 and it's always been some of the hardware and good luck trying to get it out of them, but I work for a living so being able to call them during the day just isn't going to happen, though I have tried, I have e-mailed them every time and never have gotten a response. I added it up the other day so far they've shorted me almost 300 bucks in hardware and mishaps, this includes all my hobbyco, top flight and OS junk since it's all the same company. ALso for me I'd rather pay less for an ARF or kit and get the hardware I want instead of deal with what they give me. But it's the cost of the hobby and when you build, for me anyway I've just accepted it since as bad a deal as I've gotten from great planes I've gotten allot worse from everyone else. MOrris has gone way downhill, north east sail, what the heck happened to them. they rocked 8-9 years ago, now they suck. I don't deal with horizon for personal reasons, they SCREWED me bad.

We'd not know what email address was being used, but we DO take all emails and missing parts notices seriously. If your kit is missing parts, and you're in North America, an email to this addy will get results fairly quickly:

[email protected]

Overseas, if your dealer can't help you get parts through the regional importer, then try the email. The propblem is the delay it takes for International Air Post to get the parts. Also, some parts may not be shippable, if they are over the Air Post size limits.

Sorry to hear about your problems. But I got to say that I always buy anything under the Hobby Services banner with confindence. This is due to the fact that whenever I had a problem, they've taken care of it no matter how small up to replacing whole kits. I've never had to argue with them to get an decision either. In fact when dealing with a new vendor, I do some research to see if they are up to "standard".

So, what was missing? No chance of going into the "junk" bin or getting help from the lhs itself?

Good luck!

So the delivery company sucks because it came a day later than you expected and Great Planes sucks because you were shorted the hardware package and all that is the reason you can't fly this weekend? I think the reason you won't be flying this weekend is because of poor planning and unrealistic expectations on your part.

Everyone I've ever heard about here in the states has had great service from great planes. Not to mention the kits are outstanding. Sounds like it's your distributor that has a problem...

Better order a second plane NOW so you will always have at least one flyable.

I wish to retract my first statement about great planes being crap blah blah blah. Turns out great planes realised the mistake and sent the hardware separately to ripmax, the distributor, and informed them to put the bag in the box.
On a happier note I couldn't be more pleased with how well the parts i can build are going together.
Also i do have another plane but the engine for it has died on me.

well I can't remeber them all but here some of it that I am currenly flying and are still missing stuff

GP viper. one had no hardware the other had a busted tank and no hinges e-mail, no response, called, said they'd deal with it never saw the parts on any of them I don't even bother with the wheels since none have lasted more than 3 flights. it not me I land em smooth as glass and since no at all 3 of our clubs has had them last over 7.
dazzler, no landing gear or instructions, I fugured it out but geting the gear was PITA, I had to buy it
top flite sea fury, no wheel covers, missing decals and a busted cowl, and busted wood. I did get the cowl
8x miss matched monokote. never got one replie but no follow through on their part
2x lusterkote total wrong color, nothing, for the cowl
Piper cub 60 kit. variouse missing wood and hardware, miscut peices and unaceptable wood quality on other peices, no repie to e-mail and when I called the chick was rude as hell
od fs2 91 missing a woodruf key and drive washer, must have been a display at tower, no one wanted to deal with it, bought the parts myself, at least it's one of my best running engines
gottne two bottles of GP CA that was rock hard when I got it. not a word, don't buy that crap anymore
futaba 7CAP. all switches busted, the warrenty specifically says it doesn't cover that, ***, that was about 50 bucks
there is allot more but I don't remeber
It got to point like with wood I just don't bother anymore since it quicker to fabricat the peice myself that wait a month for the part if they decide to replace it. it just ticks a person off like I said I work for a living so I can't sit by the phone for an hour with a parts list during the hours of 7-5

This thread is possibly the ultimate expression of ARF culture....the guy is upset about not having his airplane flying a week after he orders it!
Oh well, he'll have moved on to another hobby next year.....

My thoughts exactly.... But it's annoying to listen to it as they come and go, you know?

phil

P.S. - Have had many GP kits and a few ARF's over the years. Never can recall a problem, and some of the best engineered stuff available. Zero Complaints here.

First off I have been flying for 3 years now. I can and do build kits which i prefer over arfs as i can make amendments to the plans to make life easier when it comes to maintenance and I just wanted the arf to get flying asap.

Well, if there was to be no flying this weekend because of the one plane, can I imply that you have not got a flyable aircraft in your possession? What about the kits you built over the past 3 years. Ive been in it for just now 3 years and have 3 flyable aircraft and 9 more in various stages of build...No ARFs. oops, except a Megatech Housefly, which I promptly flew into a wall and put out of my misery. Not bad for an indoor micro heli that was advertised as ready to hover out of the box. Better off Kit Built.

Well, this is kinda off topic but also fits here. I ordered a Tower Trainer 40 ARF (from tower of coarse). First off let me tell you "What can brown do for you?". They can deliver your package to the wrong house, that's what. So it takes half a day to find my plane, then I pull it out of the box, and am checking it all out, the N number on one side is upside down. Now I know this does not effect the way it flys, but come on now, what's up with that. I just kept it that way though, now mine is different than anyone elses. (or is it)

SoonerAce, not all of us can afford or be able to store as many planes built and semi built as yourself.

The Extra is built now and weather permitting will be up in the air tomorrow.

Cool bean, sorry for the slow reply. been out of town.
I fly at KCRC in fleming park and at Longview lake both in Lee's Summit Mo.
And as far as great planes goes I have not had a problem with them, but they sale alot of stuff so there's bound to be a problem every now and then.
