Default Anyone fly glow on their own property?

I always look at these lone farm houses on many acres as I drive to work, and think how great that would be to live there. I can't imagine the convienence of grabbing a 38% scale something or other or a .60 pattern ship, walking out the back door and just start flying. But, I don't think any of these people are into R/C. Does anyone here have this luxury?

The field where I fly is in one of our members' back yard.

Two or three of our members are fortunate to have a lot of land and have landing strips out back.

I have a 300' by 120' runway about 300' from my back door that is flat ,smooth grass. I still like going to our club field so I can see my friends. I fly behind my house late evenigs but mostly electrics and save the gas planes for or club field.

I fly large glow planes at my house, but trees and other obstacles make it far from ideal. I'm still envious of my farming neighbors who could have the perfect flying field if they wanted.

I've flown smaller C/L planes on the front lawn of the family homestead in upstate NY. 13 acres.

Hate to brag but I've got a 40 acre field of weeds right next to my garage. I plop my flight box down 10 feet from the door and away I go. I have mowed a small runway in it in the past but I fly strictly combat planes with no gear now so just plunking down in the weeds is my usual tactic.

Me!!

I have about 3 acres and back up to a 40 acre farm... the farmer is a friend and I have his permission to "overfly" his property...

Walk out the the back yard,, go fly....

the only trouble is the extra mowing of the back field.....

I love it

There are some trees in the approach area, so about the biggest I can fly are .40 to .60 size..... so nope, I can't fly my 40%er at home.... but the club field is only about 7 miles from the house... close enough to be convenient, far enough to prevent frequency problems......

If I ever move, I am going to have a dificult list of "needs" for my realtor when we buy a new house!

A big back yard warrants a big picture.

Actually it is a glitch in the system at RCU. It should correct itself when the server gets rebooted. If not I will remove the picture and try uploading it again.

When I lived in northern Illinois I had my house on my 15 acre flying field. It was great! I even had the club over for a fly in. All I had to do is make a couple of calls on a Saturday afternoon and all my flying buddies were over. I went through tons of glow fuel during the time I lived there.

On the down side, I had to buy a full size tractor and finish mowing deck. Mowing just the flying strip took and hour and a half. Also, putting in grass was expensive. Then all the fertalizer. Also I had to build a sprayer to pull behind a 4 wheeler and blow down 2-4-D to keep the weeds down.

The up side of having a flying field must be greater than all the downsides because I'm going to do it again in central Texas near Abilene where I have 20 acres of land. Only 3 more years to go and I will be retired living on my own flying field. Now all I need is to meet a new set of flying buddies in that area.

Well,

If you will move closer to Ft. Worth and buy like 40 acres and build a second house on the property, I promise I will be your BEST FRIEND!! Oh, but the runway has to be asphalt and at least 800ft to accomodate jets. And I know quite a few others that will be Johnny-on-the-spot to be your new friends as well.

Yep thats the down side of flying on your own property. It can get pretty lonesome if you don't have a bud or two to share it with. I'm trying to invite flying buddies over all the time.
