RE: Sepulveda Basin
well, that's kind of an extreme way to deal with a problem child....
better yet, if yur quick enuf and have the goods, quickly shove a banana, potato, or your socks up the guys tailpipe. then when he gets in his car to get away, it will start up only momentarily, wheeee sputter and sput while you and yoiur buddies come walking over to him slowly making pounding fist gestures and circling around him as he cranks the starter frantically.
whatchoo think of that?
okay, okay, so i stole the idea from beverly hills cop
it WOULD be funny tho.

405 North
Exit Burbank - left (1st exit after the 101)
Woodley - right (ignore the road closed sign and drive around it)
First left is Apollo field follow the road back to the parking lot and you are there.
I won't be out at the field until Wednesday but I'm sure there will be plenty of activity, have fun and be sure to give us a report.

taildraggerdave,
If it's not a V8 and the exhaust is narrow a potato will do it . I watched the show as well but as kids we used to play jokes to the neighbors, when vthey were loading the car to leave in holiday. 80% it will kill the engine.
Sorry but one experiment is not a rule. I'm afraid that in the next show they will prove the earth is square and they will have a lot of followers.

rare-bare, i would be happy to use your truck to test out the potato theory as long as you were standing directly behind the exhaust pipe.

RE: Sepulveda Basin
Took the Ultimate out for what may be its last time (at least for awhile hopefully) today. Hung out with Ron (outsider if I remember correctly) and Joe for much of the day. There was a crosswind for a good portion of the time I was there.
Some interesting stuff happened (when doesn't it?). I was talking to Ron when we both noticed some guy crossing the runway with a little Wattage Cap powered by a small glow engine. He went over to the portion on the opposite side of the runway where the starter and pilots are for the pylon races. He set his Cap down and pointed it right at the pilot line. Well, I ended up running out towards Joe who appeared to be right inline with the soon to take-off Cap. Well, the guy lets the Cap go and it takes off. He stays on the other side of the runway and even starts to head out into the weeds to fly. As it buzzes around the sky like aa bipolar crack addict during a manic episode, I stay out to spot for Joe. Well, the Cap, as expected, takes a dump. Joe and I notice that it is that crazy Asian dude who shot down planes for fun. While I am out there, a kid with a 40 or 60 sized Spit starts to take off. The nose starts to go over and the kid balances his prop by shaving about half an inch off each blade on the runway during the takeoff roll right in front of us. I kind of feel bad about it now, but I was laughing hard. Earlier, when I was flying, some guy lost control of his electric plane. It zips over my head and heads out into the field where it performs an act of self-sacrifice to appease the children of the corn that reside out there. Of course, the pattern was switched around and we had some fun watching people trying to land right to left in a fairly significant crosswind. I suppose you could liken it to the little old ladies who sit back and watch the people trying to drive up steep hills covered in ice. Great fun.
All in all, pretty much your standard day at the Basin. I may stop by for a little bit tomorrow to say hello to everyone. If not, have a great Christmas (for those that celebrate it) and see you all out there next week.

RE: Sepulveda Basin
Nice field report Mathman after a lot of superfluous non-sequiter posting. You guys are really killing this thread with non-basin related BS. JSB can accuse me of throwing my wet blanket but there are many that read this stuff to hear about the happenings at the basin and not about how best to disable someones mode of transportation. Give us all a break, please.
I'll be out at the field Wednesday with my nephews who are visiting from Cleveland. I have the WM T-34 on a buddy box and they got some sim time today so we will see how it goes. Anyone with a trainer that feels like helping me to indoctrinate 3 new pilots is more than welcome to come out and lend a hand.
Anyone out there have any other Basin related news to post?
Basinite, do we know you? Tell us what plane you fly so we can look you up.
