Hey Bear
You are right about stray signals. I use an Icom Scanner but at the Basin I never use the antenna. It gets too sensetive. It seems like it picks up all kinds of signals with the antenna fully extended.

richard has a fairly decent radio scanner which has audio output. you ought to hear the crap that comes through some of the RC bands... i mean like voices, tv stations, ufo's.

edit:

the audio feature on richards radio ( i can't remember the manufacturer & the model number) is great. with audio, you can differentiate an RC transmitter (it sounds like a continuous fart) from other signals. on the hobbico unit, you can not.

The scale contest was a lot of fun today. nice planes and some great flying-with purpose! not just boring 110 holes in the sky!

That was a fun event for sure! I was able to fly 3 times without the typical Sunday chaos! Too bad I was limited to the 10 manauvers each flight... but I think have more fuel!!

So does anyone know what an emmelman suppose to look like? hehe.

Scale Dail that p38 was flown very well! enjoyed watching it fly, hearing the twin engine sing is just awesome!

Wow was it hot today! As I got to the top of the hill (405 @ Mullholland) it instantly got another 15 degrees warmer. I got to the Basin nearing dusk and maidened my F86 EDF this time with landing gear and had good results. It was just for kicks and giggles and worked good enough to be refined tonight for another flight another day. The rangers showed up and said they got a vague complaint earlier of an aircraft reporting a high flying model. The rangers basically joked this off though because the report was old and it was not late anyways.

Fact (as heard on KZLA radio morning show):
U.S. Park Rangers are 12 times more likely to be beaten or mauled than any other profession.

I was able to watch this newer guy I don't recognize with something like a Sportmans Aviation 40 size Corsair but gone electric. He did a pretty good job with the maiden and only had trouble with the landing where he only slightly nosed over. Warbirds are much harder to land than most other planes in my experience; especially electric, they are extremely nose heavy and prone to easily nose over. He was running an AXI 4120/14 with a 15x8 APCE prop and 3S2P batteries. That's a pretty cheap electric conversion relatively and I was quite impressed!

The heli fun fly starts this Friday morning with people coming in RV's on Thursday night. By permit, the field closes at 9am on Friday (I think). I don't know how well it will be enforced, but I just wanted to post it here. Saturday should be huge as far as fun fly's go. Going to be a bunch of different heli contests, a slip n slide contest (with female judges/participants), ice cream and such, night flying, and a live rock n roll band into the evenings night flying event. Have people coming in from out of state. Should be a good time.

And before people start *****ing about a 3 day heli event, there is only 1 heli event per year......not my fault if there has been 3000 other fun fly's and events this year.

Hope to see you there.
Dave

Heli's only fly by beating the air into submission combined with the fact that they are repelled by the earth because they are so ugly. I can't believe three days will be consumed by this deviant behavior of flying those loud smelly contraptions and is only exacerbated by the lewd and lasivious goings on of the aforementioned contests and so called music.

I only hope there is enough money in the Valley Flyers' coffer to have the field fumagated and sterilized afterward and maybe a priest can be called in for an excorsism or at least a rabbi so he can bless the place with the hope of never repeating such a catastrophy again.
