Is it just us?
This weekend at our field , we crashed a unusual amount of planes, 8. Most seemed to be radio faliure.
Funny part about it is when I crash a plane, people crash left and right over a period of time, no crashes for a long time, i havent crashed for a long time and didnt this weekend.
Im wonderign if we jsut have problems or did any or ya'lls clubs lose alot of planes? 6 sat , 2 sun
total lose for the week is 9, 1 on thursday.
monthly total, is over 10 I think.

Just comes with the territory, I guess.
I've lost 4 since Feb.
1 guy in our club has lost 3 in 6 weeks, and blew up his turbine engine.
3 guys, one each, in about 6 weeks.

It happens every year, Batteries don't get checked ,controls come loose , many different failures. Have not had these problems happen here yet ! but my time is coming!!!!!! Heat ,sun spots, lightning, and radio interference you name it ! What a challenge.

We had a bad day last weekend. Lost 6 planes in one day. Some just "went away" and others just lost control.
I fear that all of the crashes may have been my fault. I brought my dog to the field that day. His name is Rex. Maybe not the best name for a dog that is going to be hanging out at the field.

I was hoping to crash my Sturdy Birdy this weekend so I could put the radio gear and engine in a (relatively) decent plane, but what happened? A bouncy landing stripped out the throttle servo
Now I've got to buy another servo to stand a chance of wrecking that plane....

Maybe I should try landing it in a tree, that worked for the last plane...

Is it just us?
Almost pancaked one into the trees this past Sunday, myself.
Man, I hate to say "I'm HIT", but it sure crossed my mind, at the time.
About 30 seconds before, I was pulling up from a flyby, and the engine
kinda revved up on its own. I thought it "might" have been a glitch, but
then figured it was at/near half a tank, and had just leaned out a bit on the pullup.
Anyhow, I was just buzzing around, not doing anything in particular, except
just getting the feel of the new plane. (Lanier Extra 300L .40-.60 ARF, w/OS 91fs)
Next thing I knew, it was in a spin, not too high, above the trees in front of me.
Part of me says I just got slow, and it did what nose-heavy Extras do when they stall
Still... with the nose pointed down, and no pressure on the controls,
it took almost 3 turns to get out of the spin. I had written it off, already yelled,
"I ain't got it", and was waiting for the crash, when it pulled out, just a few
feet above the treetops, and all was well again. I brought it around, and did
several touch and goes, and went ahead and called out, "guess it was pilot error",
since it certainly looked like everything was dandy with the radio, and I didn't
want the gallery to think I was blaming it on "getting hit". (a pet peeve of mine, too)
After entering more spins later, and seeing it come out of every one, the instant
I released the controls, I'm still wondering exactly what happened.
I flew it again later, and again, everything was well.
(Outside of general rusty piloting. No nose-overs... but man, I couldn't nail
a landing the same way twice that day. I really need to get to fly more... soon.)
Hopefully, it's just that the plane is a good bit nose heavy right now...
and I just snapped it all on my own, and maybe a dumb thumb was resting
on one of the sticks... I don't know. I think after heavying up the tail a bit,
I'll still fit a new switch/battery/receiver/different chanel, fpr peace of mind. Maybe
then, if I do stuff it in later, I'll "know" it was pilot error, and I'll be happier for it

The Bee that makes up my aviator is six years old, hasn't had a problem for a couple of years and last weekend it had a rather bad collision with a planet, Earth flew up and hit it for no reason, time to get the spare glue out of the freezer.

9 planes lost at our Field in less than a week, mostly batterys followed by range problems, and yes none did a range check at all, so I guess this would be pilot error on all counts includeing the dumb thumbs on at lease a couple of them(why do people that have not flown in a couple years bring good planes to the field and ask for no help)!!!!!!!!!! :stupid:

Ouch!
That's a lot of planes in a short time. Where do you fly?
(Note to self... take vidcam, and hardhat, and visit frequently )
I definitely do the range check thing, before that first flight, each flying day.
As for not flying in a couple years and not asking for help. We're just hardheaded.
I did buy a "well used" Advance .40 to come back last year, after almost ten years out,
but I was hardheaded and wouldn't take any help, myself. Plus, I didn't
feel like waiting around until a mode 2 flyer/instructor might happen along.
(Lots of mode 1 flyers at our club. Never encountered so many in one place)
As it turns out... other than being rusty, and my knees knocking by brains out
for the first few flights, the basics all came rushing back to me, including
a quite greasy "first landing in 9 or so years", if I do say so myself
( Always loved the "landing" part of flying... and hate when I can't "nail" them)

I busted the throttle servo 2 times on my sturdy bird. Then I bolted that firewall in there, and got a servo saver. I actually did manage to absolutly destroy my sturdy bird to a point i never thought possible. The fuse had a huge crack down it, and the alluminum channel was at a 60 degree, offset angle.
Here's how to do it:
Full throttle, come across the runway in a dive like your going to do a loop, only instead of pulling out, roll inverted then pull UP ELEVATOR. Man it sure does take a beating, but make sure you have a servo saver and that it is soft gound, don't want a bent crank on that engine.
