CA hinges
Because of their high profile in the hobby, I bought 3 packages (72) CA hinges from Great Planes. They seem to have a plastic center with some fuzzy stuff on both sides. I cut the slots with a Slot Machine and they were very tight. When I tried to slide the hinges into the slots, it just scraped the fuzzy stuff off and wadded it up in the gap between the wing and the airleron. Is there a way to eliminate this problem? Altrnatively, I am sure there are hinges available that work better than these. Anyone know where to get better hinges?

DuBro PINNED hinges. or Robart Hinge points.
tower carries them, as do others. (ONLY MY OPINION, I have never ever liked CA hinges.) use Gorilla glue and for extra security, run a pin or toothpick through them. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD941&P=7 |
+1 What Jim said. ;)
I've had the exact same problem with the media scraping away. I use polypropylene 'waffle'-type hinges (and a couple round toothpicks thru them for insurance), or pinned hinges. |
I was out of the Radio South hinges......used Great planes and the rudder came off................The plastic pulled clean out of the rudder leaving the fuzz inside the balsa....Never had a Radio South hinge fail, and like Jim and others have said pinning is best.

Those hinges suck. Don't use them . Buy fabric hinges and you will be a happy camper.
