How to use individual SMT LEDs from Hobbyking LED Strips?
 

I have a bunch of illuminated rocker switches but unfortunately the bulbs work off 240V. Therefore, I want to mod them to use an SMT LED from the Hobbyking LED strips that I have.

Problem is, I'm not sure how to make an individual LED work as they are grouped in threes with a resistor.
The circuit the switches will be running off will be using an Nimh with a nominal Voltage of 9.6V.

Any ideas?

hmmm, those LED's as is (in groups of three) will light up nicely on 9.6 volts... if you tried to power a single LED with 9.6 volts, the likely result is that you'd burn out the LED.
that having been said, if you look closely at the LED's while still attached to the strip, you'll see the circuit is clearly marked as far as which circuit trace is positive and which is negative.

so you could simply unsolder one LED from the strip, and either solder on a couple small wires to the LED, or solder it to your own circuit. (although manually soldering such tiny components isn't for the faint of heart :) )

Thanks for the input. I have actually resolved the issue by actually doing pretty much what you've said. I desoldered the LEDs soldered on cut-off resistor legs and soldered a 1K Ohm resistor in series with each individual LED. Works a treat.
