Judging by the look of the nose - definitely the XB-11 Trigger Fish. At the time of development, the Air Force was experimenting with various means of easing fatigue on the crew during long missions. This particular plane had a two lane bowling alley on board.

Aw shux. I was hoping to sucker in at least one believer. :p Kind of like Balderdash - you try to make up a convincing definition for a word no one has ever heard of.

According to my sources it's a Douglas XB-42.
I didn't use the tail number. I did it the hard way, Yahoo search for "strange aircraft". Wish I'd thought of using the tail number though...:-) |

It is the Douglas XB-42.
Here is the URL for the US Air Force Museum Archive Gallery. You can look up the XB-42 under bombers. They have all the fighters from P-1 to XF-23 and all the bombers. The cargo planes are done up to C-46. This site has a wealth of info on past Army & Air Force airplanes. |
