I like the fellowship with fellow modelers and learning.
If I had to fly by myself I would quit the hobby!

Once I learned that air molicules don't know that you're not a scientist with a degree in aeronautical engineering, I started designing my own planes. Going from an idea to watching it fly is cool. Helping others figure it all out is also pretty cool. But for me the most rewarding part of this hobby is using my planes in the classroom, to introduce grade school kids to aviation.

Good question ,and I'm sure there will be many answers.

For me ,it's the diversification that aero-modeling has.

I have many R/C planes,but I also enjoy plastic, F/F ,and rubber.
I can make this hobby into anything I want it to be and
I don't even need to leave the house to enjoy myself.

Much of what I am today may be due to the fact that I
learned how to read a blueprint,(plans) at an early age
and that success doesn't always come easy nor is guaranteed.

Regards
Roby

Lifting off the water with a Cub on floats and watching the water droplets stream back off the aircraft like little diamonds sparkling against the blue sky,,,
ahhhh,,,,,, now I gotta go flying.

Designing, building, flying, competing, BS-ing, what's not to love?

I have to admit, that water droplets from the cub floats thing got me going... Lessee, the last I saw that scale float kit was under the bench in the basement workshop and I'm sure I have a half finished cub here somewhere....

All of the above...

I've always like to build things and work with my hands, and a great attraction to r/c flight is that I get to build something and then get to go use it.

Nitro? Heck, it's the burnt castor that flips my prop in the AM...

So far everything I like about it has been mentioned. However, I would like to explore the chick thing MinnFlyer mentions. So far we are pretty short on chicks.

I joined this hobby and RCU on the presumption that Minnflyer was going to invite everyone here over to his house on a monthly basis for food and drinks. I have yet to receive that invite.

Spending quality time with my son, the fellowship with others that have a like interest and oh yeah the float thing got me going also. Anybody got some floats that would work on a great planes P.W. extra I was going flying today but it started raining around 7:00 am and hasn't stopped yet 12:00 noon (I am starting to see animals pairing up)

I enjoy fast planes, and really enjoy pylon racing. Theres something about 4 planes screaming at 20,000 rpms coming around the pylons 15 feet away from me that gets me going more than any cub on floats...

I enjoy building as much as flying, especially since the AC is now operational in the Garage. I've done a hair of designing and scratch building, and can see area growing in interest for me.

Taking a box of sticks and and making a scaled down creation of a beautiful airplane, flying it, then returning it to a bag of sticks, then starting the process over again.

All the above are really good reasons to like the hobby but the one that really trips my trigger is that I'm now spending my kids inheritance.

Hopefully I'll live long enough to convert all my assets into cash and spend it all at the LHS before the crumb snatchers can get their hands on it.

All I can say is, "It sucks to be them".

There's an open invitation to anyone who wants to come this far out into the boonies. A day of flying followed by an evening of grilling and BS'ing.

Directions are easy: From Minneapolis, go west till you reach the end of the earth, then turn left 2 blocks. :D

My favorite thing about the hobby is building. I've always loved to build things and this is just an extension of that.

Next to the building is the 15 minute bursts of time that I don't think about all the crap that stresses me out during the week.

I'd have to say it's the diversity this hobby exposes.

That, and the fact that nobody is opinionated, and everyone is so willing to listen and show interest in everybody else's ideas.

Oh wait, scratch that last one. It's just the diversity. :D

The rare moments when everything is going right and everyone is watching:

On Lake Wisconsin, I was flying my float equipped Kadet MKII, from my boat and I accumulated a 6 boat audience. After several tank fulls and about 50 "Splash-N-Go's" I taxied up to the boat and shut the engine off. Everyone in the 6 boats were applauding and cheering. :)

Same plane at a Boy Scout camp. Everyone in club stayed home except for me and the Boy Scout leader (a fellow club member) because of a little weather problem called a "tornado watch". 3 foot rollers on the lake. 60 inquisitive Boy Scouts delayed the inevitable for 2 hours until right before dark. Take off results in instant flip over. Blow water out of engine and crank up again. Club member would like to hand launch, but doesn't know where to grab the plane. Transmitter in left hand, I see a hole and grab the plane in my right. Club member looks at me and shakes his head and says "no way". I hammer the throttle to full and toss the plane to a beautiful hand launch. Fly for the kids for about 5 minutes while the club member and I decide how to get down. I end flight and luckily put the plane right between 2 waves 10 feet from shore. I quickly gun the plane to get it to shore before another wave comes. Then I beach it perfectly and kill the motor. More thunderous applause and cheering. :)

20 plus perfect touch and go's in a row with the "peanut gallery" full and watching. :)

Putting on a perfect show with your profile fun fly. The glider guys and the new students bottom jaws are on the grass because they've never seen anything like that before. The students are extremely jealous because the Sudokhoi can land waaaayyyyy slower than their trainers..... ;)

Too many more to mention, but those are the few. Those are the times that make the pile drive crash and other problem days all seem worth it.

Oh, almost forgot. The first time you land your PBF intentionally! ;)

One of the many things I like is turning a box of wood into something that turns peoples heads when I Fly ;) Also enjoy the feeling that when people see me or my planes they know who I am and what I can do with what I have.

BTW. if you ever make it down to Chatfield Res./flying field look me up ;)

They have figured this out! :p

Now they come by and tell me that they love me after getting the money they ask for.

The people have got to rate the highest for me... :D

Today was the BEST

Yes, today was the best for me. I took my Stafford B-24D out to Aurora Il. and put it together. Then a friend of mine went into the store and brought out his father-in-law to see the plane. It brought both goose bumps and thoughts from 60 years ago. He was on the ground crew for the real STRAWBERRY *****. The smile & stories where worth all the time and work that I've put into this model.

This, to me, is what it's all about.
