Alright, hopefully no ones bosses read this, but here's the question: How many of you have become magiacally sick the day after you got that new kit/arf/truck/car/whatever? I know that it's been done (yeah, that's me admitting my downfall), so I just wanna know who all has done it.

being the boss, i gotta say i am shocked that anyone would even consider such action, let alone promote it in the maner you are doing<G>.
i just bring it in with me, if i feel the need<G>

I'll take you one step further: I plan my sick days ahead. In fact, I'm going to be sick next Monday so I can test fly my Funtana when the field isn't crowded.

Lucky for me I only have to work about two weeks a month so that provides plenty of time for making planes and flying. It is nice to hit the field when no one else is there and be a field hog without anyone getting angry with you.

Unfortunately, the one time I tried this, the wife called in to take care of me and the kid really got sick. Never got a chance to even go near my new toy.

fly109 07-23-2003 09:12 PM

Be very careful!

I was afflicted with the same virus each time I got a new kit but I began to notice a change in its effects. At first it was a day here and a day there. There were weeks when the sickness happened more than once. . . or even twice! Eventually my resistance began to weaken and it was hard to work at all. I ultimately quit all forms of normal life, moved 700 miles away so I could take a job in modeling. Now I am my own boss and need not make excuses at all for now I have a modeling bussiness that keeps me content in the modeling department. Guess its a little like the remedy for a snake bite - a solution using the same venom. But I find now that I have a slight aversion to people with normal jobs. If I get to close I begin to get that sick feeling LOL. Now I am like a drug addict completly dependant on my daily dosage. I have to have modeling in my day - each and every day. The ole saying about "watch what you ask for or you may just get it" is soo true.

Regards,

I got ya all beat. How'd you like to call in sick and then see your boss at the field.

One dude at work called in sick. The next day he was red as a lobster with sunburn! Think about that when you are at the field all day in the summer, sick!

say you were looking for the hospital, got lost, so came to the field to ask for directions

if the boss asks "why is all your equipment in the car?"

reply with...

"oh its always in there, can't be bothered to take it out!" :D

I’m self-employed, no paid sick days, no paid vacation time, so if I don’t work no moola comes in for airplanes. Also if a job doesn’t done get done close to the time I quoted, customers get upset. Call in sick? Not even when I’m sick.

However I have been known to take my planes and squeeze a flight in if I have a job anywhere near the flying field. ;)

The closest I have come to doing this was when my wife had minor surgery that was going to keep her home and in bed for 4 days. I took the 4 days and on day 1 did my duties with the wife at the surgery and all. On days 2-4, I set up a intercom system in the house that when she needed me all she had to do was call me in from the shop. I got 3 full days of building done while she slept and recovered.

Only problem was, every time she called for me (which was not really that often) I was covered in balsa dust!

I try but I just can't get very enthused about work when there is a new model in the shop waiting to be built. So far I have used about a weeks worth of sick time this year.

So what do your bosses say when they meet you at the field?

I am pretty fortunate. My schedule depends on workload, so if there is no workload, I am free. I also schedule my jobs and being a manager helps me use others to perform the work. I bring the work in, they perform it, everyone is paid and my boss is very pleased. Of course, our HQ is 1500 miles away and this helps tremendously.

I have this allergy. The doctor has told me it is "balsaitis" (Balsa Itis.) He says that I am allergic to the odor and dust that is present in recently unwrapped planes. The only thing I can do is get it built and covered fast so I don't suffer from the symptoms. So if I really call in sick am I not really sick? And by building all day I am on my road to recovery.

Yeah, that's it, yeah, I can use that reason.

I don't usually get sick when the plane arrives. I get sick when it's almost finished, and I can't wait to get it done!

I work 4 days a week(4, 10 hour shifts), so Friday is the day I head out to the field and hog air space. We do training on Wednesday's and regular flyin on Sundays but its real nice to head out by yourself sometimes and just do touch and goes, or be an ass, or whatever ya want.
