RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress!
no news since some time as I was busy with office job....
I just tried to do an half stab 3d milling...look not too bad except that the plywood doesn t give good results compare to foam.

RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress!
will see...still not sure if I want to do the wing by 3D milling or not...
I already have some made with formers and skinning and they don t look tooo bad.
the only thing is that it is sure that 3d milling is far more accurate but I might have some little issues on the edges.

RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress!
it's been a while I didn t posted anything here and the website....life keeping me sooooo busy lol!
I went back to my original plan which was 3D milling of plug instead of planking...(so my previous work is kept as a backup).
in order to do so I have sold my previous cnc and made a much bigger and better one...here is few pics....
soon pics of the job done will be posted...stay tuned!

Before going into the long process of 3d milling, I tested my new cnc on some cuttings of custom retracts frames for the main gear... result is pretty good

RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress!
ok guys...
after a while out of the project because of my work I am now back and decided to give it a push to finish it!
I have not posted much but I have been preparing 3d miling files of stabs, rudders and wings...
so now here is the 1st result of the stabs plugs just out of the CNC...after 6hrs milling!
the new CNC is so good! a little slower but the result is really cool!

That is really, really impressive!
Is the F22 going to be perfectly scale?

RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress!
the aim is to make is as much scale as possible.
this is also why I am doing again some parts.
the good thing is that I am not much in the hurry so I can spend the time to get more and more data to adjust my plug.
on the other hand, I am working alone and may not see some scale details while making the molds...
today I was supposed to finish the rudders but got a technical issue...the charbons of my Kress mill burnt...seems I pushed to hard in the MDF, need to replace them!
I was supposed to finish the rudders and wings 3d milling this week.seems it will be delayed! [&o]

I'm really interested in your 3 axis mill. Did you build that from plans or design it yourself. I really like the linear bearings but do you have problems with chip and dust contamination?

RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress!
so far no problem with dust but I trust that after some time I moght need to clean them.
however there is a seal at the entrance of the bearings and seems they are good because they "push " the dust on the rail.
I designed and built the cnc as I am doing for the plane.
it is a fully scratch built project (if we can say so...)

Wow! This looks like it will be an amazing machine! And I thought I was cool building trashcan planes out of fanfold and hot glue...
Can't wait to see more on this plane!

RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress!
btw if someone know where I can get some cast ceramics which has a smooth finish after molding, I am VERY interested....
and here is the result of some work on the cockpit to shape it close to the real one...originally it was too thin...
