Plug/mold appraising
 

Hey guys,

I need some advice on appraising plugs. In this case for tax purposes.

If an end item product , say an rc jet would sell for 8-10 grand, how logical would it be to use a reverse multiple to come up with a mold or plug value?
If anyone has some info on industry standard valuation of plugs or molds, I would greatly appreciate some guidance.

Well, if it is for taxes (you are paying taxes on the molds & plugs) I agree you want them as low a value as possible. If you are trying to sell them, then they are only worth what someone else is willing to pay for them. I calculate mine as the materials in them from there taxable value. If they were built for a client, then it would be materials & labor.

Thanks for the reply Scott. I think the best course will be to just get an estimate for a CNC produced plug, since that is what is most likely way to get a commercially produced plugs stateside.

If this is something you are doing in your garage, the value is hard to come up with. I would say the value is what it would cost to have a composite shop make you a plug. I do these types of estimates all the time. Also, depending on the material used for the plug, it will deteriorate over time and will be worthless.
