I hate to ask this, but here goes anyway.

Last night at the Monthly business meeting of the local model railroad club, I was talking hobbies and the Internet with a relatively new member. I mentioned that I had found three local control line fliers through the Internet, that my notices at the local hobby shops had not unearthed. He mentioned that it had been forty years since he had flown a control line plane. The topic shifted away from toy trains when he asked the question, "Do folks still fly those?" I, of course, asserted that a few of us here did, and there were a lot of folks nationwide still do. He mentioned an interest (Watch out!) and that his brother used to fly a lot of speed. I mentioned the new record set recently and that I could send him a link.

My problem is this. Looking at the threads on the CL index, I can't remember which thread contained the link to that event. I did not save the link, because I downloaded the the 7.2MB clip to my hard drive because of the fact that my rather slow dial up connection would not allow me to see it properly. Therefore, I no longer needed the link.

So......, do any of you with much better memories remember which thread contained the announcement of the event and the link to the clip? I suppose I could read every thread again, but that same slow connection would cause me to use a lot more time than I'd like to use in the attempt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I may be able to get this fellow flying with us this year if I can keep him interested.

Good heavens..... I've heard other engines come onto the pipe but NEVER with the amount of RPM rise of that thing. [X(]

BTW, the Realplayer file at 2.2 megs isn't too much to download and you'll get a good impression of the speed.

I watched that video a dozen times.... amazing! I had never seen any CL speed before... thats just awesome!.

And the sound.... music to my ears

Well...

In the early 60s we were happy doing 160 with a class "C" plane, engine 0.65 ci max displacement.

Here's a quarter more speed with an engine one quarter the size. And using two lines, instead of Monoline.

Impressive.

I just watched the video for the first time. Impressive! I visited a neighbor and looked at some of his CL planes this afternoon. If I did not have so many RC projects needing work I would be tempted to take the plunge.

You mean you havent tried CL ? Hey, pick up a used profile stunter at a swap meet, or get one of the Top Flite - Flite STreak ARFs and a decent 35.... you wont believe how much fun it is!

As an 11 yr old kid, I was "wowed" when I saw Tony's (Grish) Dooling powered White Fawn in the window display of his hobby shop. Same goes for the first look at one of these things in action. I even nearly "went wild" after the first flight of my K&B 32 powered P51 Sterling profile [with a batch of 3/3/2 (alky/nitro /castor)) Tony brew up for me. But None of that was anything, compared to the way that beast, in the video, came on. WOW, had to watch that thing at least a dozen times! .... Geo.K.
