Default Walter A. Musciano Twin Mustang C/L

Does anyone know where to get, or have a complete set of these plans (on the bottom of the page) http://www.modelairplanekit.net/modelairplanekit12.php ??? The plans on this page are missing a big piece out of the middle! Thanks for the response! [8D]

Yup, more of a list I think, George do you remember how much he charges for it? For that matter, does anyone have one so they can tell him what the price of the plan and catalog is? Might as well get it all done with one letter though I here Walt is a congenial guy and likes to converse.

I hope this is not breaking any rules, but here is a compiled list from several years ago that includes the hollow logs and other designs he published.

BTW, that F82 looks like a fun ship!

George

List:

Anyone wanting to "pay homage" to Walter himself can write him at
WALT MUSCIANO

Lodi, N.J. 07644
Matter of fact, anyone wanting a catalog of Walt's Scientific Plans can order them. I got the whole package from Walt following conversation with Jimmy Dodson in South Carolina: Jimmy said to contact Walt, and I did.
Please drop Walt a line, fellows. He would be tickled.
Mike in Atwater,
'When I fly, the plane gets nervous'

Walt charges $5.00 per plan and that includes shipping. I am talking about his hollow log kits. The other kits prices vary from $5 to $10 to $15. Most of the others are in the $8 and $10 range. He will send you a multi-page listing of his kits. What is really nice is to have one or two of the Scientific full-page ads so you can see what they look like. I have one of those... Now, can I use my scanner...successfully? I confess that is a problem for me, though it lites up...

Larry Rice of http://www.blackhawkmodels.com/
is kitting many of the hollow log kits designed by Mr. Musciano. No, sadly the Twin Mustang is not one of them.

I am not completly convinced the plan show is incomplete tho it does seem that way. Have you printed it and tried to join it?

There does seem to be a small gap. If you want to do it yourself, scale up the plan halves to full size and extend lines from the right side of the first (left) half, then line up the second half to match the extended lines. You will lose a few size notes but will have enough to build from.

Much better to order the plans, IMHO.

BTW, if you are building for a Musciano contest, it probably will not qualify as a "hollow log" because of the built-up wings.

George

Edit: Additional info, the two halves are not imbedded at the same scale so you will have to resize them different amounts. Since the second half contains a scale, I would try to use that scale to check the perimeter lines around the plans and scale the first half to match the second. Also check the fuselage center lines as you do this, to make sure they line up. Then ya gotta print it! Again, plans would solve a LOT of headaches...and perhaps Walt could use the few bucks...and discover a new fan.

Yes he certainly deserves the money for the plans. Decent price I might add.

Correct! This twin Mustang does not qualify in the "CARVED FUSELAGE/SOLID WING DESIGNS" catagory but there is also an open catagory where it can compete.
Seems to me that if you built this plane as per plans and then substituted a solid wing, Seems Scientific once kitted a solid wing version...I could be wrong.

Eek! The plan halves are two different scales? What a nightmare! Send off for the plans!!!

I don't see listed two plans I want. They are the built up fuselage versions of the Mustang (Sizzli'n Liz) and the P-40 (Red Tiger). Comments? Ideas?

Printed without scaling, the second half printed about 1/8" larger than the first half. This is common when imbedding drawings within text. Size is sometimes calculated by the word processor unless you override it.

Of the published plans, I have the issue of Model Craftsman (plan #30 He-112 22 MC Aug-47). This plane has a hollow log fuselage and a 3 3/8" shaft extension on an O&R .60 for power. The shaft extension is made from a 3 3/8" piece of 1/2" hex steel bar stock. It appears that all of the control hardware was hand-made also. Wooden ships and iron men. [8D]
BTW, the wingspan is about 35 1/2", not 22".

I enjoy perusing those old mags to see the obstacles that the builders encountered "back in the day"... 1947 in this case.

George

Thanks Mr. Crane, If I can keep life at bay myself I will write to him.

Now, on to something I CAN take care of! I just so happen to have the entire Twin Mustang plan. Since it is already available online such as it is, I don't feel I am wrong for sharing it here in this particular thread. I hope it it is helpful to all concerned.

In it's completness, I present to you (fitting fanfare of tribute playing):

Just as a belated follow up, the first F-82 Mustang plans (and article) came out in one of Walt's books, early 50s. Later, Scientific kitted this exact model, but with solid wings. If you only have the plans with the built up (sheeted) wings, simply substitute solid wings. That will make it Musciano eligible. The built up version is eligible for the Unlimited part of the contest.

I campaigned a scratch built F-82 (Foxes, second gen with the flutes on the case) this year. It makes an awesome sound when those two Foxes come on. It is an easy plane to fly for Speed, since it is so noseheavy. It grooves beautifully. Currell
