John,

If this is for the Corsair, make sure you apply it with nitrate or non-taughtening butyrate dope. Silkspan applied with normal butyrate dope will shrink and twist the light structure like a pretzel.

You should be using a light weight grade of silkspan, and make sure you apply it span-wise. Ask about this after you get the silkspan.

Try Peck Polymers, Micro-X, Campbells Custom Kits, FAI supplies. Penn Valley Hobbies. Lots of sources out there for tissue, silkspan, silk, maybe even bannana oil

Don't forget castor oil to use as a plasticizer for the butyrate or nitrate dope.

Banana oil! Wow, Jim, you must be a really old guy.

Actually, some of those sources have condenser paper. My son flew some Easy B and so we had condenser paper. Used it to cover stabs on 1/2A FF models. Dope will not go through it; used thinner to stick it to doped surfaces then doped over the outside. Didn't need much dope to seal.

These days its getting easier to find condenser paper than carbon paper!

As for the banana oil, I quit using that stuff long ago because it made it so hard to hold on to the bananas... Now I can hang on to them till there is nuttin but the peel to discard!

Sams Stuff has Silkspan
http://store.sshobbies.com/dopeproducts.html

here are a couple of sites to read up on applying silkspan
http://winshiprc.tripod.com/covering...y_jim_ryan.htm

Of particular interest is this link showing a 1/2A model being covered in steps with lots of great pictures!

Have fun!

Don't remember ever running across a banana that squeaked!

Bought some condenser paper a few years ago while getting some Japanese tissue. So far, haven't used it. Some day...

I never knew any of mine to squeek but when oiled up good and proper they shore did glisten! What a shine they had! Why they'd plain light up the room.
Just the same I went back to the regular banannas 'cuz they were just plaind and simple. Functional you might say.

Banana oil is still available, you can even get it on eBay! Never understood the name, it's got nothing to do with bananas, or oil!
