Fantastic collection Mr. Mears. I would love to see your collection as well as hear your storys of your past adventures in combat. As long distance travel is becoming increasingly difficult for me I would suggest you write up your storys and even just post them right here.

I did dabble in combat long ago in high school it was only just a group of us kids and not even real contests. I have always though kept a hand in just sport flying right up to this day, even after all my buddies abandoned Ukie for Rc. Sad day.

Thank you for posting those photos.

John

Awsome, amazing, wonderful. It would be great if you had the airplanes names, and designers large enough to read on this site. Didn't see a Flight Streak? I think I recognized a Voo Doo, but wasn't sure. Thanks for a trip down memory lane.

I figured the Bosta out pretty quick. The FAI combat is the same as mine, and the rest I just read when I hovered over them with the mouse.

Greg

BTW...if you put your cursor over the pic it will tell you the name of the airplane. If you double click the pic you get a larger version.

Bob Mears 12-03-2013 02:10 PM

Funny thing too. The one pic that didnt show up was the picture of the Predator that I flew for the last 10 years of so in Fast combat. As soon as I put that name in the site shut me out. May do it again when I post this. Guess thats not a good word on this site.....

GREG DOE 12-03-2013 03:00 PM

Bob, I knew the trick of clickling on each picture. What I didn't realize is that by "hovering" the mouse over each picture it would show more information. Thanks, Greg

Do you have these?

Bob Mears 12-13-2013 08:02 AM

Im pretty sure I have the Nose Cone. I dont have the interceptor, but thats not really one that I want either. I just noticed the Nose Cone was for smaller engines too. I'm looking only for fast combat airplanes. Anybody got any of those laying around that that never going to build?

GallopingGhostler 12-13-2013 08:42 AM

I've always admired that Interceptor kit. Hopefully one of these days someone will make the plans available for it, so it can be scratch built. A McCoy .35 Red Head would be perfect for it. :)

Hi Bob, Check with Barry Baxter. In addition to his plans service, He has many Combat kits that

he wants to get rid of. He too is/was interested only in Fast Combat designs(no Slow Combat models...).

Tony

scott17 12-13-2013 03:26 PM

Or ask Riley if he has some...

Bob Mears 12-14-2013 07:56 AM

Riley has nothing. It all burned up in the hobby shop fire.

Baxter is where several of these airplanes plans came from

Wow...Just got me a Wow off ebay!

aspeed 12-30-2013 07:37 AM

WoWee! That would be good too.

Bob, great work. It is really cool to see this. Combat has such a great history, and is so much fun. I do not fly combat anymore, but still have a fleet of fasts ready to go. I got to fly with you guys back in the early 90's, as I teamed up with Dave Henderson. Maybe I could send you one of our designs to add to your collection? Not necessarily famous nationally, but an important design locally none the less.

I remember you guys. We flew in Amarillo several times. I've wondered if you still flew any combat. You outa try some of the f2d stuff. Turns out its really fun. Plus you can buy rtf airplanes! I would love to have one of your personal airplanes to go in the museum. With your signature on it. I also have a fleet of my old fast ships, just hanging there. I dont expect to use them again. I've converted a couple of them to f2d trainers for some kids, and converted a couple into electric. I used the elect. in Tucson last year in the 75mph class and took the win. I'll be using it again in Tucson next weekend. If your ever out this way come by the house and look at all the planes. they really are fun to look at all the design ideas from the time. Is David still fying anything? Combat just about died out when the F2D really took off. I hated it at first, but really enjoy it now. Still not many younger pilots. I'm 60 and about the average age now. Stubblefield is over 70 and he made the USA team next year, so if that old ****er can still do it, I can! We have 30 or so pilots show up in Phoenix a couple of times a year and over 20 in Kansas with theMinor's event. We have on in Lubbock on labor day weekend and get about 15. But its still great fun!
