Control line airplane identification ?
 

I have had this plane hanging on my ceiling for awhile and was wondering if anybody could ID it. Has about a 36" wingspan but that's just a guess. Thanks for any help.

Back in the 90's, I think, several us in the Cincinnati area got involved with"Golden Age Racing." It originated with some guys in New England. 36" span, .40 engines with 11" diameter props. That looks like one of the models built by one of the guys here. Most of them have passed away. Do some research the racing planes from the 30's and you will probably find that plane. I still have two Mew Gulls that I built and a Napier Heston racer built by one of the deceased guys. I suspect that your model was built by the guy who built the Napier Heston.

Thanks for the information Chuck and I think you are probably correct. I got this plane from a guy in Cinci. I am a huge fan of the golden age racers but cant seem to figure out which one this might be. This thing is really well built and the fuse is fiberglassed. I don't fly C/L but it looks really good on the ceiling.

If you get a chance could you post some pictures of the Napier Heston and the Mew's?

Here are photos of my three racers. The profile Mew Gull was for a class of profile models that originally called for Fox .35's and was eventually changed to O.S. .40 FP's. I also built a Curtiss Navy Page Racer, but it met it's demise at a contest in New Albany, IN. The Napier has a Thunder Tiger .40 which was the best engine of reasonable cost with the 11" props. The full-body Mew Gull has a Super Tigre .40 rear rotor that has been set up for clock-wise rotation. With standard rotation the torque on take off caused most of these models to come in on the pilot.

Those are great looking models!!!! I appreciate you posting the pictures. I am going to put a McCoy Redhead 35 on the model I have just to display it. I am pretty sure it will never get flown. I bet the ST 40 really makes that Mew Gull move!.

I think the OPs model is of the Loose Monoplane. I have a book (in storage) of forgotten air racers or something like that and this airplane is included.

I see that you built the second one that was never finished in real life :)

perttime, I did not build the Napier; it was built by a friend who passed away several years ago. Although I got quite a bit of his modeling gear, there was no reference material included.
