personaly id fly a rc heli then a fly by wire heli any day just thionk of the heli hiting you:D and im not a airplane guy but i think an rc plane is better then flybywire because if you are tentherd to the plane and spining it around youd get dissy and lok like a psycho in public:D if you got a rc plane the girls (and guys) might start taling to ya but then againrc cost 1000's but thats a small price to pay when you relax instead of runing around in circles[>:][X(][sm=punching.gif]

Not so fast Bigiron, ARF control line model have been around for AGES.... Jim Walker, remember all his models? Sold RTF and he was the father of CL. And what about all the cox models, Testors, Wenmac, etc.

And today the top flite Nobler and Flite Streak.... ARFS are (and have been) a part of CL since the 50's. :)

ARC not ARF. I have a 1938 Flying Aces which has an ad for a RTF powered Free Flight. I think ARF and RTF have been with us from the beginning.

Lets refer back to the initial post. If the person wasn't putting us on with his spelling and grammatical errors, then we should all be very worried.
This individual has had the benefit of at least 18 years of public school education. I don't think that Cleveland would be too happy to have this person as a representative of the results of their school system.
Perhaps it's my middle aged reflex to youth but I seem to think that the country as a whole seems to be 'dumbing down' Or has education now been made to cater to the lowest common denominator.
I know it's an unkind post, but it is an observation.

That is exactly what's happening. Social promotion is rampant. Teachers do cater to the lowest common denominator. Unfortunately, the situation has become worse over the last several years. If the thread originator's reading skills have anywhere near the outstanding quality of his writing, I don't see how he was able to comprehend enough to fly even an ARF or RTF helicopter.

Of course, since I tend to look for the good in folks, I believe that this thread was started as a joke to get a rise out of those of us who are semi serious about our hobby. I really hope that this the case.

Sad to say, Zio's post above is typical of his other posts. Checked several, all very similar.

It's possible that he's as young as 12 or so. One of the other posts said his dad was paying all his bills. Might yet be hope, but Cleveland schools do not have a great reputation. You may have noticed all the news reports about school selection there, and the "Voucher" controversy.

Some twenty years ago I wanted to take my son out of public school, he brought a note home from his high school english teacher, not one sentence in the note was constructed correctly. This "Ebonics" speaking woman was supposed to teach students a subject in which she herself was not competent. He wanted to stay in that school, against my better judgement we let him. He turned out OK, but I think it was more the home environment than that school.

My youngest child never set foot in a public school. All private and home schooling. You wouldn't believe her SAT score. Had her choice of colleges.

And the average holder of a recent BA is far less well educated than the average high school graduate of 50 years ago.

Yes, America is being "Dumbed down," but it's been going on since Dr. Spock convinced mama that discipline was a bad thing. Or maybe even before that.

BigIron is not talking about ARF's. His refrence AR (BARF)CEE was a sarcastic misspelling of RC...I think?
Besides, BigIron knows the history of CL very well...he was building and flying not to long after Walker himself.
He can also tell you anything there is to know about Fox engines.

My previous post went off accidentally-which may say that I am not one to discuss education:)

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing many of those educated in recent years will be downright deadly. In addition to the catering to the lowest denominator factor we now have a complete lack of or even aversion to common sense. A case in point is the trend to "zero tolerance" rules. Lets face it. The young lady who was days from graduating at the top of her class when she was kicked out of school because a butter knife was found under her car seat was hardly intent on killing any of her classmates with that "weapon." There have been countless similar cases. School administrators, of course love these rules because they remove from them any responsibility for making decisions.

Does not this send the message that the road to success is to be a mindless robot?

Another reason for the slide in education is the decline in the quality of teachers. This will doubtless offend any feminist, but before so many new opportunities were opened to women many of the brightest and best became either teachers or nurses. Now a significant number become teachers only because education is an easy major. (This acording to my wife-an education major and former teacher.)

Enough. I will now go play with my motorcycle to clear my head:)
