I just noticed that it seems not too many control liners posting on here. Is it because Leonard has this site in his listing on the SSWF. Anyway I beleive there are more CL'rs out there afraid to speak up. I do have a flying friend that says he does not go to any of the forums as it is a waste of time. But, I like the ideas and pictures that show up. Thanks to Leonard, he posted the Jumbo pictures I sent him. Anyway hope that young person gets that PT-19 flying. If only he had help I would suggest a larger plane, like ARF Flite Streak with OS LA-25. Enough rambling, DOC Holliday

DOC,

I peruse five boards every day. Some have more activity than others. Why would anyone be afraid to speak up about something?

You'd never know they were there if someone was too shy to post.....

Hi DOC,
I'm lost here. How could we have posted something here if your post is the first one?

I stay on the forums as much as 14 hours a day. I don't mind asking things I don't know. But you are right and it seems there are less people posting than previous.

I do it to get information from others and try to find someone close to my area that flies CL. I would like to get with some other CLers and fly but most of the people on the forums are about a thousand miles away. (kd, that includes minnesota, I think).

Most of my flying will probably be solo. My partner here at work flies RC with me but there is usually not anywhere to fly CL when we go flying.

I've been out of this end of it for about 30 years and I really want to catch up on a lot of the technology that I have missed. I now have time to play. The kids are grown and gone and I have time to build and fly. I guess I'm an old fogey like a lot of others around here.

That's why my town is in my signature, in case someone happens to be in this neck of the woods, they can find me, and we can fly.

RW,

Where is Sharpsburg? I am originally from Lexington.

It just depends on what you want Doc, I got the same mutual friend and while I'll be trying to get folks up on an intro flight, he'll be telling me that he came to fly not talk. Well, he gets what he wants and quite frankly I haven't sucked too many folks into flying regularly, except for him of course. I've reached a point in my flying and family life where when I get a couple minutes, it usually isn't anywhere near the building board or flying field. Well, things change, I'll get some flying time in someday, but it's good to talk with your people too, post pictures, share ideas and such. Never been much wrong with that.

Traffic down here a bit for ya? Well, there are that I know of Stuka, Here, Hangar Flying (formerly Flightlines group) Ultra Hobby Products and probably a bunch of places I forgot. Ya can't talk ALL the time.

Sharpsburg is 13 miles north of Mt Sterling Ky. Mt Sterling is at the 110 mile marker on I-64 and I live 7 miles from the interstate. I am 1 mile north of the Montgomery-Bath County line. Just moved there in December from Mt Sterling. I am about 40 miles east of Lexington.

RW,

Assuming you travel to Lexington occasionally, look up Lew McFarland. He can direct you to the flying site on Winchester Road (if I remember correctly). Lew also has one of the best stocked hobby shops around. He stocks CL and RC (and probably other stuff). He flies CL, RC, and full size. Lew may also know some CL flyers in your area.

I know Lew quite well, as he is the LHS that I go to. I have talked to him many times but most of his clientele is RC. He is the one that sold me my first RC plane 8 or 9 years ago. I think he has a couple of Shark kits in the back room but not much else for CL. I had trouble finding braided cable for my leadout wires there. I did go thru his supply of balsa for some straight spars for my Twister.

I have been to the flying field there by the city dump, the one Lex. Model Airplane Club has, and its really nice. But I don't belong to AMA so until I do I can't join the Club. I never have seen anyone on the CL circle when I've been there, and it's still a 30 mile drive. I can fly RC in Mt Sterling about 3 miles from my house, a couple thousand acres of farm land that's a wanna-be subdivision with a 3/4 mile paved road down the middle. No houses anywhere to be seen. That's where we have been flying for 2 years. I started flying from my old farm with the trainers, but it's too rough for the higher powered stuff I have now.

But I'm back in CL now and am going to build my hanger up some with that. I just really don't like to drive any more, I guess I've turned into a homebody. I want to stay close to home if I can. Lexington traffic is a headache, and this is from someone who grew up in Nashville TN, about 2 miles from the airport.

The closest CL hobby shop is SSW, in southern Indiana, and that's a three hour plus drive. So I'll do the best I can with what I've got and have fun.

Build a nice flying site, and people will find you, I reckon. Good CL sites without all kinds of restrictions are pretty rare...We drive 100 miles one way to use our dedicated club site, or about 15 to use the local RC club site. We do the long drive just to have other CL flyers to hang with. We are about the only ones in RST.
