Texarkana Contest
1 Attachment(s)
The annual Texarkana Contest was held on May 14- 15. Despite forecasted rain the contest stayed dry and we had mild breezes that blew away from the sun. From what I understand CD John Gunn puts this contest together almost singlehandedly since there aren't many C/L flyers in Texarkana. The contest always seems well run and has a decent turn-out for a smaller local event. If you're in this area you might want to put it on your calendar for next year. I've posted 37 pics from the contest on my photo-page in the "Birds on a Wire 2" album. The Texarkana pics start on page 5. The link is below.

RE: Texarkana Contest
Was Carrier held at this contest?
|
RE: Texarkana Contest
No carrier, just the 4 classes of PAMPA stunt. Entrants flew two flights each on Sat and Sun with the best flight from each day going toward their total score.

The Topclassical Contest in Topeka was held over Memorial Day weekend. Lots of stunt entries and great weather and people. I think it's been held for 28 years. I put together a photo album over at my photo-page just for this contest. Here's the link http://community.webshots.com/user/inferalanding
The photos here are Jim Phillips' Legacy, Gary Hays' Stiletto, Dave Trible's Vegas, and Doc Holliday's Primary Force |
RE: Texarkana Contest
Elwyn, without going into a long story, would you happen to know whose Vegas that is in the photos?
Thanks, Kelvin |
RE: Texarkana Contest
Dave Trible. He used to run Heartbeat Models. It looks a bit like a Gieske Bear crossed with a P-51 Mustang.

RE: Texarkana Contest
Kelvin; The Vegas is another version of Dave Trible's Music design. In fact it is a refinished Moonglow he flew several years ago. He had one last year that looked similer to a Zero. In the Vegas he has a Ro-Jett 40 with a pipe. As usual the engine or fuel system seemed to go somewhere else. So he did not get a complete flight on either round. I think he had too much prop as it was a carbon fiber 11 1/4 X 3 3/4. In reality I think the Music(Vegas) is too much airplane for the engine. Wish I could get him a larger Ro-Jett. Anyway his job keeps him off the contest circuit. DOC Holliday

RE: Texarkana Contest
The carrier deck was set up for the three entries that was there. Dale Gleason, Mike Greb and Andrew Hathaway were the entrants. I have a new profile MO-1 that has not been flown yet. DOC Holliday

RE: Texarkana Contest
Doc,
What engine are you using on you Primary Force? I think I want to build one when they become available. Lee TGD |
RE: Texarkana Contest
The Primary Force has been flying with a box stock Fox 35 that has been in several profile designs. DOC Holliday

RE: Texarkana Contest
Thanks Doc.
Well I have plenty of Foxs just waiting to be used. Do you think a LA40 would be overkill? I have several of them and have never used one yet. Well, I do have one in a plane I got from Zuriel. Its a reworked FP model though. Lee TGD |
RE: Texarkana Contest
Using the LA40 with the right prop would work. If built light the La 25 might be better with 10-4 prop. I might even try it if the LA 25 I have on the Sky Ray works. Should give Emmy some air time breaking it in. DOC Holliday

RE: Texarkana Contest
Does anyone know if or when an 06 Texarkana Contest will be held?
|
RE: Texarkana Contest
I believe it's May 6 and 7. I did hear some scuttlebut about the contest possibly not happening this year and I'll post here if and when I hear anything more. The contest is organized largely by one man who depends a lot on attendees to help put on the contest and I heard he was having second thoughts about doing the contest in 2006.

RE: Texarkana Contest
Thanks for the info. I'm not far from Texarkana and would like to come watch if it happens. If it doesn't, I think there's gonna be an r/c jet fly-in near here -- maybe the same weekend.

RE: Texarkana Contest
I recieved the flyer for the Texarkana contest in the mail today so I guess it's officially on for May 6 and 7. The location is Spring Lake Park. It will run most of the day on Saturday and they will try and get things done by noon on Sunday to give the out of town competitors a good bit of the day to travel back hame.
