hi every 1!!


i have a cox black widdow engine but the glow heads on them engines use so much battery power what r u ment to run it on 3v ore 1.5 v ,i use 1.5 (car glow start battery 3000amh). ive tryed different 1.5v batterys but all of them all the same they all die down within 30-60 seconds. and ive tryed 5 different glow heads,

whats rong?

I came to the conclusion that the Cox heads really like 2 volts. Three is probably too much. But we have pretty good luck using two "D" alkaline cells in parallel. Four in parallel would be even better. The Coxes sure start easier with a good hot glow.

I've always used the glo ignitor plugged in to my field box powerpanel, puts out 1.5v, but has a 12v, 7AH gel cell to draw from. Never had a problem(besides blowing an occasional head).

Maybe some of the more experienced 1/2A guys could help more... try in the 1/2A area?

Only thing I can think of like I said in my PM to you, is to make sure the wires or clip aren't getting shorted - in effect shorting the battery.

Yep, try some "D" cells. Not enough current.

Four D cells in paralell. It 'll light off everything you have for a whole flying season. It's what I use.

I use a 2 volt 5 amphr lead-acid gel cell made for use in emergency lights, I think. The same as used to come in the GloBee fireplug. It lites up Cox plugs very well.

last time i tried 2 glow start batteries(car) on a coild glow plug it blew but now i have a glow plug and it has 2 forkes at the side not a coil.

the old cox starting batteries actually had 3 d cells in parrell inside that cardboard box.took a dead one apart once to see what i was paying for.i have not seen one of those 1.5 volt dry cells in years.

The Cox plug really needs at least 1.5 volts. Nicads peak off the charger a little over this, but drop to their normal 1.35 real quick and that is just not enough. 1 or 2 Dcells is enough for us occasional users, 3 or 4 for those hardcore guys. Cox sells a nice little parallel pack that's fairly easy to use. I think Radio Shacks plastic pack is series though and it will pop your plug.
