Flight Streak First Flight
Just had the first successful flight with my ARF flightstreak today. Kinda windy but i had my dad fly it. We got about 4 minutes of run time with the included tank, an OS 35 FP and a 10x4 prop. He noticed a tendency of the inner wing to drop. I was wondering if enough weight (if any) was put in the outer wing at the factory. Anyone been inside one of these wings? The first time i flew it i guess i had too much weight in the tail. I had it balanced to the kit specs and it was very tail heavy and over sensitive. This time i took most of the weight off and it flew a little better. Just wondering about the wing weight.

zimzimma,
First check that there is no wing warp. Assuming a straight wing, tape some weight on the outer wing tip to see if it helps. If it helps, adjust the amount of weight until the wing flys level. THEN, cut into the wing and install the weight permanently. Good luck. George Edit: Afterthought. What diameter lines are you using? Should be .015's. |
RE: Flight Streak First Flight
If the outboard wing remains high while invereted I think you need to adjust wingtip weight or line lenght/diameter. Mine has an OS .32, and I fly on .015 X 52' and it seems about right....
best of luck! Tom |
RE: Flight Streak First Flight
We fly ours with a considerably lighter FP 20 and 9x4 APC prop. I shrunk a slight twist out of the wing. It is dead on now and needed no other trimming other than removing some tailweight I had installed. Easily the best flying profile we have on hand. Wings dead level at all attitudes.
With a heavier engine hanging off the side it's possible the overall tip weight might be too much but I'd look for a wing warp first. Very easy to shrink back out with a heat gun. Just don't get the seams hot enought to pull away. |
RE: Flight Streak First Flight
im flying with .017 line. it actully measured to be .0175. When i get a chance this weekend i will have to check for wing warpage. The problem was with the downwind portion. Maybe its just that it was a little too windy for a nice level flight. I might try adding a little wing tip weight anyway just to see what happens. If the weather is good i hope to try it out again this weekend. thanks for the replies

RE: Flight Streak First Flight
If you can, try a set of .015x60' lines. Yours were probably marked as .018 which is for larger engine/plane combinations. Symptoms of too heavy lines are inboard wing lower and excessive bow in lines when plane is flying...both of which can lead to less line tension, etc.

PipeMajor re your post about the 20FP/S.
I've just inherited a used loop scavenged MAX 20. I'm going to bench run it this afternoon and tach it to check out its condition. Internals look good and like it's had not much use and a relatively easy life. Compression is solid for a cross-flow motor. It should be around the same (light) weight as your O.S. 20 FPS if lesser in terms of peak power output -although an extra head shim and 10% nitro should assist that. I haven't got an APC 9x4 to test but I'm thinking that'll be around the perfect design and size prop for the MAX 20 on a TF Flight Streak ARF. If known can you advise what yours tachs (ground); and what length and gauge lines are you using with that combo? I 'm thinking I can get away with 60' if I go .012. |
