Here are some pictures of the repair. I went to the auto parts store and found a fitting that would slide over the post. First I glued the post together then I slid the fitting over it and glued that. Its pretty strong. I would have rather used plastic tubing like plastruct but there are no more hooby shops near me and I would have had to order it.
