Hi everyone well its been over 30 years since I flew u'c I built my firsy ringmaster when i was just 13 latly i've been seeing thes arfs and it has springed my interest again its just I'm broke and have a lot of RC stuff laying around and was thinking about kit bashing something together whats the story about useing fishing line since I'm here in alaska I have pleny of halibut gear and no engines under a forty

Just about all of us are retreads in some manner of sorts. Control line is alive and well. It may be a bit harder to find us and many will try to convince you CL is extinct.

We just held a Labor Day fun fly/cookout at our field.

Between Ebay and forums like these, getting back into U/C is almost easier than it was to get started in the first place back in the day. There is one fellow here that is up your way in Whitehorse, YT (jwitham). He has some great material on the Ringmaster, for instance.

Looks like a nice funfly there. It won't be completely extinct for awhile though, I'm only 20 and plan to still be flying CL for many years. Although I don't know many (any) people active in CL, especially my age, the older guys at the RC club love seeing a CL plane every now and again. Brings back memories for them I guess. I started with the 1/2A stuff a good 10+ years ago and took a break while I got into RC and now I do both and bring a CL plane to college where I can easily fly at a local park.

I just dusted off my Carl Goldberg Buster with my OS .40....

It's been several years since I've unspooled the wires but we're going to go ahead this weekend with it.

IMO a 40 is a perfect size for a trainer or to get back into it. You can use much longer lines which helps keep down any dizziness and gives more sky to play in. I wouldn't use fishing line though on a 40 powered model, too much stretch (no control) so use .015/.018 steel lines at least 60 foot long. Use a fuel with as little nitro as possible (I don't use nitro at all) because we're not all that concerned about a nice idle :D.

If you mean nylon fishing line it's useless for C/L purposes. It has too much give in it.

A old throttled OS RC .40FP is a perfect match for my Magician and works well indeed and as the others have said forget the fishing line thing and get a set of real wires.
