Have 8 mm film of it (me to) when it was new.
Good evidence of why dad had so much trouble with needle setting,,,he thought I was only flipping the prop:D

Poor thing is even uglier than I remember!
The abuse this airplane took when I was young is amazing.
Memory says it would stagger through outside 1/2 of lazy 8 and fly inverted for 1/2 lap or so.
The field probably looked like gophers lived in it after a day of flying.

A little sanding, a snazzy paint job with some fine graphics and new wheels; you'd have a contender for a good looking ugly plane there. Imagine the satisfaction! Just remember, as I always say ... get pictures "before" that first test flight!

Actually I have thought about restoring it, just have not been able to come up with a legitimate reason to do so.
Might mess up the "patina" is what the wife would say. What ever that stuff is.

I think its dead and doesn't know it.

I've seen worse than this restored, but those were full-size planes. As to "patina" that's the green on copper and brass that makes it look all old and such; supposed to make it worth more...In your case that's not patina, that's a severe case of hanger rash.
I'd suggest you offer it at auction (not EBay) with the stipulation that each step of the restoration be documented with pics and narrative. Sure would make a good article. Heck, I'm a writer by trade (though you can't tell by the vernacular I use here), send it to me postage due and I'll restore it and do the article. I'm DAV and could use another winter project, Heaven knows I have at least one engine that will fit since I have nearly a dozen.

Since it is similar on both wings I would assume some type of trim scheme.

Are you sure the elevator is to small?:D

So far, four people have taken their first C/L flights on this plane. I hope to add to that number.
It's really strong and has survived some brutal treatment, including two figure nines.

Well I finally put the airplane shown in the original post heartlessly in the garbage can after scavenging it for parts.
It had a good run, with nine people by my count getting a first C/L flight on it. Ol' number 3 survived many attack by the inexperienced with uncountable figure nines and broken props as well as a second engine.
It was finally done in by a guy highly experienced decades ago, who didn't realize inverted flight and a flat-bottom airfoil was a bad mix.

But the trash-nobler has arrived to take it's place!
