Gators won't bother anyone as long as they do not get near a nest. Local knowledge gained from having had to swim with the gators a time or two retrieving malfunctioned airframes from the swamp I fly over.

I have a friend that planted a 33% Sukhoi ARF in the lake one January. The motor broke free and she bobbed like a cork before going down. He was a heart patient so going after her in the water was a no-no. He wasn't happy to say the least, and he has built a lot of planes but he hasn't bought another ARF since, The firewall failure was the deal breaker.

Thanks for sharing. Believe it or not one wing was full of water which he will rebuild. He ran the bird home had on fans for 2 days straight. It's not as bad as you would think. Very little warping and still fly worthy !!!!!

Wow! he got lucky on that water landing! It's amazing how resilient these models can be, how often do you hear of a plane saturated with fuel but still flying? Gives the owner a small coronary when he decides to restore it, but it was still flying!

Seems like foam wings would be a good idea so the wings don't fill up. No gators in Illinois, snappers maybe. I made a little rowboat out of a 1/4" 4x8' sheet to pick up dead planes.
