Default Whats wrong Ultra-Stick? Vulture got your nose?

Well to say the least today was a bitter sweet day. I just finished my new Ultra-Stick 60 with a O.S. .61 FX . I did the maiden voyage on High rates the whole time. Then I did some touch n go's and brought her in. My dad did his first Take-Off and flew around with out help for 5 mminutes. that was a big day. but only the Tip -of-the- Iceberg for us. The day goes on. I fly my slowstick and Tori flies his 35% J'Tech Panzel. just a little bit of background here. Where we fly its basically a landfill that got filled in and theres other various mounds of junk around the feild so of course it attracts a lot of birds exspeicaly vultures (You can see where this is going). Anyways I'm about to take-off with the US 60 again and one of the other guys sais jokingly I bet you $100.00 you can't hit one of those vultures. So I take off fly around and then I decide to head for the birds I made one pass and had a close call with one then I realised that I had my brand new plane doing this so I do a half loop and start to get out of the birds when sure enough at about 3/4 Throttle I nail a vulture head on (Now keep in mind these people have trying to do this for a few yeas with magics and combat planes). Now you'd think it would just roll off but no it stuck on the front and at first I was like Holy **** some dude just nailed a vulture then I realized that was me so I dive to give it some speed since the balance kinda got thrown off with a vulture on the front not too mention the drag it created. ad down she come and right before it hit i pulled up and leveled off but a wingtip dipped and it caught and just blew up. Some of the garbage workers saw it and came to the rescue and were laughing theiur *** off. I had to admit it was pretty fun but I was still devasted b/c I fell in love with the plane and it was brand new. The tank flew away from the scene about 30 feet and the buzzard passed away via a severed head. well back to square one.

I'm sorry If I offended some I did not Actually go through the birds I buzzed them about 30 feet away. and I hit a Stray Vulture. Like I said I did not mean it and I follow all AMA rules.

Pictures to follow----

I have to say what you did (or try to do) is very irresponsible. Trying to hit a bird (even a vulture) with your airplane is right down mean. Even though this was an "accident", you fully deserve what you got. If you want to brag about hurting/killing an animal, go to a hunting site. Next time, be an adult and fly responsibly.

Title should be "Gee, I hope my actions don't cause the club to lose their flying site". To use your plane in such a manner, to seek out and cause harm is irresponsible and is not in compliance with AMA. Its actions like this that we lose our flying fields and rights. Your AMA membership should be revoked. You think its funny now, wait until the SPCA with the local county government comes along and shutsdown your field because of your immature attitude and actions. Nuff said.

Funny ha ha, I think not..

***** happens.
As senza has said, we have chased erant birds away from the active area before, but have never had any intention to hit one. Mainly because I don't want to destroy my plane. Otherwise I would care less. Damn sea gulls are everywhere here, one less won't hurt. Same for the vultures.

You think its funny now, wait until the SPCA with the local county government comes along and shutsdown your field because of your immature attitude and actions. Nuff said.
Ya, you're going to get your site shutdown because 1 bird got killed.

I hit a squirrel driving my truck the other day, hope I don't lose my license [X(]

Everyone thats getting angry shouldn't be. The kill wasn't a direct action of the previous hunt. It was an accident that happened to occur after the hunt was called off. I like to call it "the hunt" cause it makes it seem like a fun game. I agree though, that you shouldn't intentionally go after birds, but the midair was in no way a direct attack on the bird(at least from how I understood it). So get off your high horse, and untie your panties. It was an accident.

I didn't know that would make everyone upset and first off The guy that said that thing about the bet was joking b/c he said he wouldn't want me to do that to my new plane (neither did I) and I buzzed them not even within 30 feet of them. Like I said I was leaving an one went astray and its life ended. I fly safely and Always follow AMA rules. I never had the intention to kill a buzzard. Any way there is a sing up that asks people to go out and kill them b/c there pesticides to the landfill. all they ask is that you bury them Which we did. I'm sorry i offended some of you so much.

Warning If you are prolife for buzzards don't look on.........

To the 2 old farts that went off on the bird strike. Chill Get a life and go back to flying your trainers in big circles.
I have flown at this field and its located at a land fill. 1 bird out of the 100s of birds that fly out there is really no big deal. Would not even cause the local tree huggers to look twice about what happened. So telling this guy that his AMA should be taken from him and he would be the reason his field will be shut down is plain out right crazy. Maybe then next time you 2 would want to post something tree huggerish, Post it on a SPCA forum. Friggen Hippies.

If you look closely at the first closeup of the plane, you can see some blood on the wing at the root, near the L/E.[sm=thumbup.gif]

Chris and the rest of you who felt this was acceptable, please have respect for all living things. If you consider chasing birds with your model airplane is a responsible act, then you all are the ones that gives this hobby a black eye. I guess being an old fart, hippy, or flying in circles with my trainer is better than being young, irresponsible, and causing harm.

Now fly safe and enjoy this wonderful hobby.

I fly at the same field. Look you tree huggers...The guy did not try to hit the damn buzzard. Think about it...It would be hard as hell to hit a bird on purpose . This guy is just getting started in RC and did not have any wrong intentions so chill out and give him a break!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's the direct quote from the original post "Anyways I'm about to take-off with the US 60 again and one of the other guys sais jokingly I bet you $100.00 you can't hit one of those vultures. So I take off fly around and then I decide to head for the birds". There is no intention in that? Intention to kill or not, he did fly towards the birds and now we're supposed to say "sorry for the lost of your plane"?. Yeah right! He got what he deserved. Now he needs to understand this is not the right thing to do and not be cheered on.

The worst part is that some of you are defending this action. There is something wrong with people like you who thinks chasing birds or trying to hit them is a responsible action. Why don't you guys stand in the middle of the field and chase each other around with your planes. That will be really funny. But then you may already be doing that.

fasterthanlife, I see that you've edit your original post. You've experienced what happened (lost of your plane) when you listen to irresponsible people (the person betting you to hit the bird). Please be safe, fly safe, and enjoy the hobby.

Hey the guy didn't do it on purpose, the vulture is not considered protected from the sign at the dump, and i think at the rate of one dead vulture at $180, i don't think he'll be trying to fly near them again. besides he is just a kid cut him some slack i'm sure you never did anything dumb when you were young, right.

All I have to say is

1. Stop threatening people with AMA. AMA is not a license to fly it is insurance.
2. Once again none of us where present when this happened so all we can do is beleive what he says,
edited or not.
3. If you want to get mad at someone it should be RCU for allowing such a post, (I'm not mad at anyone for
the record).
4. fasterthanlife, made a mistake now lets learn from it and move on

FlyNBHappy, why did you forget about these parts of the original post?????? It seems that we do have a good reason to defend fasterthanlife. Had he hit the bird intentionally, then yes you could get mad, but when it's an accident, it's an ACCIDENT. Man I hate those liberal tree huggers.

now we're supposed to say "sorry for the lost of your plane"?.
I didn't see anyone asking for sympathy. I think he just wanted to share his story.

As for chasing birds, they don't usually let a plane get close enough to them to cause a threat. When I get an erant bird out of the flying area I usually can't get closer than 50 yards anyways.
Like I said if it was a bald eagle, hawk, or anything that could be protected you should stay away for obvious reasons. No one is going to get angry (except on RCU) for chasing away a flock of chicodees or vultures.
I made a post a long time ago asking about bird strikes, do a search for it. Good reading. Some are very humorous.
