nope.

I feel so bad for the guy... he worked on it for whole day and all the work and money he put into it...

Its a part of this hobby; you buy, you build, you fly, you crash and all over again.

I saw the Turbo Raven at one of it's last airshows a few weeks before the crash. He had about 750 hp on a 1500 lb airplane, and the prop diameter was about 1/3 of the wingspan. I believe it was a modified Giles 202 that it was built from. Anyway, it could takeoff in about two lengths of the fuselage and go straight up. One of his manouvers was to take off and do a big loop to a landing. To do this, he would flat pitch the prop, spin up the engine, launch up and over, then go into beta (reverse pitch) on the prop on the decent, and land. As I understand it, he lost power on the way down and just pulled elevator to pancake the airplane on the pavement. The pilot suffered a spine injury due to the gee loading on impact. He was interview on local (california) tv, and he said he was finished with airshows.

Looks more like a Cessna Caravan than a Raven.

It looked like he might of had the ailerons hooked up backwards. Seen it a hundred times before. Too bad what ever it was . It was a beauty.

[:@] It's sad to see very expensive planes crash from not doing simple ground checks . All I fly at the moment are trainers and it takes me a 1/2 hour to an hour sometimes to set up, ground check, and get the plane in the air.

Sorry for such a loss, but I have to ask , was he trying to do a roll that close to the ground or was he trying to turn and froze up after he realized the ailerons where not set up correctly ? Thank GOD no one got hurt.[:

Sorry "E-Mo"

Not very often you get to see jet powered planes with 20 feet wingspan crash.

Right click and "Save Target As"

vsustko22:

I have a connection that runs up to 18 mb/sec, and it still took me about 8 minutes to get the down load.

The "Slow" has to be on your end.

Bill.

Very slow download but just right click, do a save as and go about reading other forums and play it later.

I cannot believe he took it off with reversed ailerons! It's the simple stuff that gets you sometimes I guess.

If you read the Florida Jet 2005 thread you'll see that a) it is a Cessna Skyvan and not a bright red and black aerobatic model of the Raven, b) the cause was reversed ailerons and c) he was one of the most experienced pilots there and was simply distracted throughout his pre-flights.

Goes to show that wiggling the stick and seeing the surfaces wiggle too isn't always enough. Moral of the story - don't get distracted during your pre-flights!

Rgds,
Mark

Okay, then. What is it? Sure looks like a Caravan or Grand Caravan to me.
