EXTRA 300S crash
This is what happens when someone else at the field switches on there radio
running the same channel !!!
I took off from the runway at full power, reached about 50ft and banked round to the right, then all of a sudden the plane started to barrel roll
violently to the right, i managed to gain control for a flick of a second before it started to roll again, at full power heading for the slope of a
grassy hillside., it was at this point I lost sight of it as it plummited towards the ground!
It turns out the wing is fine, the tail section is fine, i justr need to re-build the centre section of the fuselage, and the bulkhead, It should be flying
again,,,,
If anyone knows the manufacturer of this model could they please get in touch, as I bought it at a local model auction with no instructions, engine or radio...., I would like
to find out if I could maybee buy a new fuselage for it?
Thanks
Hugh

Ouch! [:@]
I hope the guy that turned his radio on is making good on this.......
That looks a lot like the old Hobbico Extra 300 ARF. It's out of production, but they re-released another one not long ago.....I think the dimentions were the same as the original. Check Tower's website.

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
Sorry for your crash. If this had happened to me I wouldn't even attempt to repair it, I would give it to the member who switched on without freq control and tell him to make good with a new airframe, use the engine and what electronics are good and replace those that are stripped or suspect.

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
I dont blame the guy,,, it was partly my fault for not checking,,,,, usualy we check to see what channel everyone at the field is using, but its got to the stage where everyone at the club knows what chanels everyone else uses, and they are all different, but a couple of new guys have joined, and I forgot to check what channel they are running.
we will be using a board from now on with pegs for each channel. (as we should have been from the start!) and an electronic channel scanner.
Thanks for the replys guys, It looks like the hobbico 60 size one is the one im after, only thing is though, they are discontinued, ill have to do a bit of scouring for a chassis!!!
any help will be appreciated!!
thanks

After reading your second post, I now believe that your club officers should buy you the new plane. It was their sutpidity that made an avoidable situation a DANGER to all the other club members.

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
I have several spares of a Hobbico 300s if you are looking to rebuild.
I have the cowl and wing flaring, canopy, and rubber/stab. Still BAGGED and BRAND NEW from the kit, unused after fixing another plane.

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
we had this happen allot at our club(my old club)2 of me and my dads planes went down one was $1200 because of these people who train those duck hunting dogs want the property they say it distracts the dogs they have tried so hard to get us to move they must have a radio and a bunch of Cristals and a scaner because every time it happens the planes go strait down at full throttle sometimes you can control it for split seconds at a time but they still crash and they do dounuts on our field all the time we were thinking about putting down some nails then a 2 inch layer of sand then dirt and grass haha that'll teach them but im not there any more so i dont care
by the way shouldent the guys ama cover it

Merlin, Why would you hold the club officers to blame? The membership makes the rules not the officers. I'll bet they put a board up now. The rule as long as I've been in R/C is If you shoot someone down you just bought a airplane, no ifs ands or buts. I don't even want to get into the danger part of it. Sorry for your loss, I'd ask they guy to replace it or if nothing else spit it with you.

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
just a little reply about the frequencie issues seeings at our club we have a "key board" where each person puts there key in a board with there name and frequencies on the keys and therefore no muck-ups with frequencies but thats just how we do it.

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
Hi there,
Sorry but I found this thread today !!!
I suffered a similar crash back in 2001 with a stupid guy on same frq.
He claimed after the crash taht he wanted to tune his engine prior flying and he didn;t pay attetntion at the Freq board.
Now my Extra flies well as it was initially assembled.
I have an OS 90 Suprass and 3001 servo's. Fut 148DP onboard.
I'll post some pics later today
regards

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
I hate to have to ask this...but it has happened to me 4 of 5 times lately....
I have gone to the field early to fly, and have found 4 or 5 people already there flying.. (All are members and some are board members)
I unload my truck and get ready to unpack my radio when I notice that no one has opened the Freq-Board..
I go and unlock the cabinet, and remove my pin..
I go back to my table and pull out my radio and set it aside....
after putting my planes together, I test for proper servo control, and turned on my radio....
I had the pin...and they were content to fly and jaw away without getting their pins...
Now, Devil's Advocate...
Lets say that my turning on my radio planted a heli or plane that they were flying.....would I be the one truly at fault., and as such did I just buy a stack of toothpicks for my trouble???
This thread got me thinking...and if this ever happens again..I will YELL out that I'm on CH XX and turning on my radio....if for no other reason than to be a good neighbor to my fellow members
THanks for the feedback
Larry

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
You wouldn't be at fault... If you are the one with the channel and made good communications with the others about your frequency, then if they get shot down WITHOUT checking the board, it's their problem, and there in, if your model were to inedvertantly get damaged, they'd be the ones responsible.
Food for thought. I always put up my pin on the board when I get to the field (I realize many fields have many different procedures). I also (for extra security) check with the other guys there to see if they're on the same frequency or not (I call out my channel), because you never know if someone might have bought that new radio and gotten a new frequency along with it.
Maybe you should bring this up at the next meeting (about guys messing around and not properly tagging in). Sounds like someone is due for a lawn dart or worse, an injury.

RE: EXTRA 300S crash
Sorry for the loss mate. Best to remove all the electronics and excess hardware and purchase a new plane rather than rebuild. new ARF kits are available at rock bottom prices now from CMP (China Model Productions). Example - Just purchased a CMP Extra 300S (72 inch) for $155.00 (USD) with free shipping. Good luck!

Mnation - I'm looking to get the cmp extra 300s that you are talking about. Where did you find it for such a good price, and free shipping? I would really appreciate it if you could give me a link to the site. The best deal I've found so far is AK- models.
