Default Great Planes Extra 300

Here is my Great Planes Extra 300 before and after.Just recovered it.Bottom of wing and stab is yellow/purple checkerboard, all cut by hand.Crashed on 2nd flight.Battery came loose and unplugged from switch after a snap roll. Will rebuild it with same covering design.OS 46FX,pitts muffler 9CAP radio. If anybody has the plans for the Great Planes Extra 300 40 size,I need a copy of the stab, fin, elevator and rudder.Wing and rest of fuselage is ok.Also I need an engine cowl. Thanks

Ajajajaj...
Still I agree with you that it is fixable. Check out Greatplanes home page, they have all the manuals downloadable (pdf). In the end of the manual they have a scaled down version of the original plans. Hopefully this is all you need since you could take some measurements from the wreak. This together with a brand new fiber cowl and pants this plane will be as good as new.
Good luck,

Christian, the scandiholigan.

Stripped covering off of wing. Not too bad.Found 1 crack 6"-7" long in front of the spar and leading edge is broken at 3 places.
Fuselage had 2 broken spots I already repaired and will cover with more monokote.Plastic wing bolt saved it from further damage.
Pitts muffler was broken.Already repaired it with Aluminum welding rods from Harbor Freight.First time using them.worked
for what I needed. Will post pics whwn I get it rebuilt.

I damaged the landing gear about 6 months ago and ripped out the tail wheel. But all ina ll it would be a great parts plane. Let me know. My email is [email protected]

Ordered plans for 40 size Extra 300 from my local LHS.cost was $9.20 for fuselage and wing plans.
Started rebuild process of plane wing, fin, stab, rudder and elevators.I will look for a cowl when I go to
the Perry show.Got all the tailfeathers built and hinged, have to bevel control surfaces.I will cover stab and fin before I
epoxy in place.Almost finished rebuilding wing, then will fill in seams, finish sanding then recover.Hopefully will be finished in a few weeks. Working only a couple of hours a week on it.

Default RE: Great Planes Extra 300

Finally rebuilt and flown today(3/12/06).Figured I would make sure it flew
OK before I ordered a new cowl.Any suggestions where to get one?Fiberglass preferred.
Flew fine, but need to adjust and retune engine, was getting close to dark when I got around to flying it.
I also flew my H9 Ultra Stick 60,Funtana 40,and Top Flite GE T-Bolt today. My stick engine stalled, started turning it
with left rudder to bring it back towards the runway, got to low and hit a small oak sapling tree.Plane went in but not to
hard.Went to go get it,found plane/wing still together.Only damage,3 broken plastic 1/4x20 landing gear bolts.(same as wing bolts).
Flew Funtana 40,no problems with it.
Flew the P-47 Tbolt .Engine(Saito 100)was running somewhat rich due to only having 6-7 tanks(14 oz) of fuel run through it.Made some low passes down the runway.Flying great .Made some low fast passes for a fellow flyer that was filming everything, made one last pass and when I got almost to the end of the runway, the engine started todie, throttled back so my on-board glow would turn back on(turns off past 3/4 throttle).Engine did not keep running. It stalled about the same place the stick did.I turned with left rudder, kept retracts up,got it turned almost back toward the crosswind runway and then it happend. The plane went right into a tree. What kind of tree,I really don't know but it was not a GA pine or oak tree.It was not a realbig tree, but luckily it was real thick brush.Plane went into the tree and then fell to the ground on its fuselage belly.Only damage is 1 fuel pod mount broken off,1 fake wing gun broken and a dent in the wing about the size of a quarter.Got plane back to pits and removed wing for inspectio. No damage to anything inside, but found out why engine stalled.NO FUEL.only flew it for about 5-10 minutes.I did find the supply fuel line split at the tank brass tube connection, but I don't know if it was like that to begin with or after it went in.Will the Saito 100 use fuel that quickly?I am still running it pretty rich.Any comments or suggestions welcomed.

pics of Extra 300 and P47 attached.

First off nice job on the repairs, can't tell what it went through When I got a new cowl for my GP extra 300 40 size i bought it from Precision Fiberglass. The fit was great with the stand offs I see you used also. I just primed wet sanded and painted and looks great.
