Fusalage for a 85 in. wing

I have a fully semetrical 85 in. wing with a cord of 15.5 in. Am looking for a fuse, plans or need to know what length fuse I need to build.

I was faced with exactly the same a few years ago after buying a set of foam cored wings NIB. What resulted was something that fit my love of the earlier eras of flight. It started with a simply rough sketch of an open cockpit design and ended very well with a plane that looks good to me and flies very good.

The first step was similar to what you are doing, establishing some good numbers to work with. If you are an experienced builder... they are all you need. The shape and design simply needs to conform to those good numbers.

You may enjoy a look at that build log.

Fantastic job. A lot more than I plan. I have a set of plans from a stick that I built several years ago. The plan had a 80 in. w/s. I originally ran a homelite 25cc that I converted to elect. ign. I am planning on running a DLE20 that was laying around. Will keep you up to date. Thanks for the info.

A stick would be a great way to go. The Hanger 9 Ultra Stick Lite is 74" wing and firewall to aft of rudder is 56.5" with a wing chord of 17" included ailerons and flaps for 1258 sq in. Your wing has less chord but is longer and has 1317 sq in so is in the ball park.

My USL weighs just over ten lbs and has unlimited vertical with a Zenoah G-20. (roughly equivalent power to the DLE 20). If you stay under 11 lbs, you would be in great shape and even have a good flier if over that a bit.

Those measurements are about right. Have a set of plans for a basic box fuse. that will work. Thanks

The moment measurement sorta depends on how you want it to fly. I generally like them long but do have one short moment fun fly plane that is err... fun to fly. But... it also has a low aspect wing.

With your higher aspect ratio wing, A too short of moment can suffer adverse yaw and require some rudder coordination or mix.

Hope that you post your progress with the design and effort. Would be fun to follow.

You could get some ideas from this site, and the Ultra SPAD Stick since you do want a Stick. http://www.spadtothebone.org/PDF/Ult...ad%20Stick.pdf

Great pics. Never thought about using vinyl. Will use some of it. Thanks.
